QC Sensory Technician-Erlanger, KY

This is a full time, non-exempt position.

Job Summary :

This position will provide sensory support for the Erlanger laboratory for specific customer needs as well as implement training for other technicians. The occupant of this role will drive organoleptic accuracy and track/trend data to confirm technicians are properly performing sensory analysis. This position will have customer interactions, determine root cause and corrective actions for sensory failures, and implement improvements. This position will report to the local QC manager.

Primary Job Functions :

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sensory training and assessment strategy that aligns with organizational quality goals and drives sensory proficiency across the QC team.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for sensory-related inquiries and initiatives, representing the sensory quality function in cross-functional meetings and audits.

  • Actively bring forward strategic improvements and innovative ideas to advance sensory protocols and quality procedures.

  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to ensure seamless integration of sensory standards into production and development.

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead sensory training programs for QC team members, ensuring consistent and up-to-date sensory skills.

  • Mentor and empower QC technicians by expanding their sensory knowledge and techniques, promoting professional development within the team.

  • Conduct weekly sensory training sessions and refreshers, creating a structured learning environment for ongoing knowledge retention and skill enhancement.

  • Oversee sensory testing alignment with Product Release Specifications and the Quality Management System, ensuring adherence to quality standards.

  • Administer yearly sensory validation programs, validating QC technicians' skills and ensuring readiness for audits.

  • Conduct sensory approval steps for critical customers and ensure adherence to industry and regulatory standards during audits.

  • Assess risks associated with common flavor failure modes and develop preventative measures to mitigate issues.

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve recurring sensory standard discrepancies between production and development, collaborating to implement corrective actions.

  • Coordinate with other ADM facilities and sensory teams to benchmark performance, ensuring consistent testing standards across locations.

  • Encourage and enforce data integrity and efficient practices across the sensory team, establishing accountability measures for accuracy and compliance.

  • Maintain detailed documentation and validation logs for sensory results, ensuring records are audit-ready and aligned with best practices.

  • Represent the quality labs and sensory team professionally, fostering positive relationships with internal teams, customers, and third-party auditors.

  • Support the QC team with clear, fact-based communication and advocate for sensory standards across the organization.

  • Lead sensory investigations when required, applying expertise to support root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Participate in sensory panels as needed, contributing expertise to ensure consistency in sensory assessments.

  • Control and retain management of samples and raw materials

  • QC Sensory Projects as necessary assigned by Quality Leadership

Requirements :

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in food science, biology, or related laboratory-based field.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Food laboratory environment or related technical area.

  • Experience with multiple organoleptic test setups is preferred.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as negotiation, influencing, and collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally with internal and external customers.

  • Willingness to innovate and adapt best practices.

  • Ability to encourage trust between operations, Development, and Quality departments.
