UPMC Pharmacy Technician, Associate in Erie, Pennsylvania

UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA is welcoming a full-time Pharmacy Technician, Associate to serve variable day and evening shifts with rotating weekend and holidays. In this role, there will be the opportunity to -

  • Prepare sterile and nonsterile medications, including cytotoxic and hazardous drugs, using proper aseptic techniques.

  • Procure and manage inventory levels in pharmacy medication stock rooms, automated carousels, and dispensing machines.

  • Retrieve discontinued medications, returning and processing them per pharmacy protocols.

  • Distribute medications, including emergency carts, cassettes, and controlled substances, in compliance with policies and regulations.

  • Maintain accurate and secure storage of medications in compliance with regulatory guidelines (Department of Health, Joint Commission, State Board of Pharmacy).

  • Assist in training pharmacy personnel and students, ensuring adherence to operational procedures.

  • Comply with Federal and State laws (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA) and regulatory requirements such as CMS and PBM contracting.

  • Maintain controlled substance records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Federal, State, and Department regulations.

Required

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of the following:

  • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program

  • Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience

  • Six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program and in good standing
