UPMC Hamot is hiring a Nursing Assistant to join the team on 7 South Oncology!

This position is Full-Time, with rotating day and night shifts.

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

Responsibilities:

• Provides direct patient care, including activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating).

• Maintains a safe and clean environment, completing safety checks, organizing patient rooms, and handling equipment.

• Acquires and distributes supplies and equipment, sets up patient care equipment, and stocks patient rooms.

• Delivers patient nourishments, fills water pitchers, and distributes mail.

• Performs core responsibilities: blood glucose monitoring, weights, vital signs, specimen collections, Foley care, restraint management.

• Provides feedback to RN regarding patient care and changes in patient status. Receives feedback and direction constructively and communicates learning needs.

• Demonstrates effective communication and understanding of cultural diversity and workplace safety. Supports department changes, problem-solving, and efficient functioning.

• Reports equipment malfunctions and assists with universal unit activities. Documents in medical records and completes clerical functions as needed.

• Adheres to safety policies and patient care standards, responds to emergent situations. Provides companionship or supervision to patients as required.

• Participates in self-review and seeks opportunities to improve skills. Performs additional duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program.

• Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.

• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.

• Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
