Hiawatha Sportsman's Club Conservation Team Member in Engadine, Michigan
Job purpose
The Conservation Manager will further the mission of the Hiawatha Sportsman Club by managing the natural resources and conservation projects. The position requires an individual with initiative, the ability to work independently, and the ability to manage a workload with multiple, often competing, priorities and deadlines. This position will contribute to the Hiawatha Sportsman Club success in accelerating the pace and scale of conservation, developing lakes, streams and hunting lands, and keeping our asset pristine for its members.
Duties and responsibilities
· Manage the Natural Resources of the Club
o Work directly with the Board of Governors and Club Manager to identify conservation goals and to overcome project challenges;
o Coordinate the development of our lakes, streams, and hunting lands;
o Advance sportsmanship in field and stream, promoting clean, wholesome recreation;
o •Work with the Board of Governors and Club Manager to raise public and private funds to meet project needs;
· • Keep databases, plans and files up to date.
· Develop and implement an annual forestry plan.
· Develop and implement Carbon plan
· Ensure compliance with internal policies and external requirements,
· Compose reports and serve as staff to the Club Manager
· All other duties as assigned by Asset Manager. This may include, but is not limited to, assisting with communications, planning and executing events, supporting meetings, and vehicle maintenance. We are a small, assiduous team that is supportive of all areas of the Hiawatha Sportsman Club work.
· Promote and further the mission of the Hiawatha Sportsman Club.
Qualifications
Strong candidates will exhibit the following attributes: -
· 3+ years of experience in natural resources, conservation, timber, or similar industries.
· Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
· Exhibits strong interpersonal skills rooted in teamwork, diplomacy, and respect with a commitment to working collaboratively.
· Personal reliability and demonstrated ability to manage various projects with accuracy and attention to detail.
· Experience writing, managing, and reporting on public and private grants.
· GIS experience necessary, drone experience desirable.
· Excellent computer skills. MS Office required, database management desirable.
· Able to think strategically, stay accountable to deadlines and teammates, manage confidential information, and adopt innovative approaches in response to changing circumstances.
· Demonstrates integrity and ability to exercise confidentiality and sound judgment.
· Enthusiasm for and willingness to travel extensively the Upper Peninsula's rural and rugged landscapes.
· ATV experience is helpful. Valid driver's license required.
Working conditions
Work requires both office and field work with occasional physical exertion. The field work environment involves infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements.
Physical requirements
This position requires use of a computer and related equipment in a standard office environment. Ability to lift 50 lbs. objects when handling merchandise and concession deliveries.
