This role is second shift, Mon thru Fri, 2pm to 10pm. There is shift differential

JOB SUMMARYOperates hazardous and non-hazardous wastewater system in order to ensure that solids are removed and that the pH level is neutralized to the appropriate level in accordance with EPA and Chemung County Sewer District permit requirements. Performs scheduled daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual preventive maintenance and helps EHS&S coordinate lab samples for reporting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors continuous flow of wastewater from various production areas such as Electropolish, Anodize, Passivate and Vibratory on two separate wastewater treatment systems. Ensures appropriate pH levels are maintained based on Chemung County Sewer District permit requirements. Adds chemicals as required, cleans sludge from filter press and cleans all equipment, walls and floors as necessary. Repairs worn parts on equipment, as required, and maintains daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual maintenance logs. 85%

  • Attends training classes as required and supports other facility maintenance personnel as required. 10%

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 5%

  • Knows and follows all laws and policies that apply to one’s job and maintains the highest level of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times.

  • Diligently participates in our compliance program and related activities as identified by supervision.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Education and training normally associated with a high school diploma.

  • One year experience operating wastewater treatment or related equipment.

  • Six months on the job to be proficient

  • Basic knowledge of PC’s and communication software required.

  • Training/courses in basic chemistry and/or wastewater treatment desirable.

Work requires walking and being on feet the majority of the time. Fumes from wastewater and chemicals are present, area is noisy and temperatures vary. Light (5 to 40 lbs) lifting is required on a regular basis and heavy (over 40 lbs) is required occasionally. Extreme caution and safety procedures must be followed as operators are exposed on a daily basis to hazardous chemicals including, but not limited to, caustic soda, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid and polymer. Carelessness or inattention may cause serious long term lost time injuries to self and/or others.

This job position will be mainly for the maintenance and repair of water purification and wastewater treatment equipment.

The hourly pay range for this role is $18.61 - $33.50. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, education (if requirement noted above), geographic location, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.
