Navistar, Inc. TSC Technician Lead I in Elmendorf, Texas
Position Overview
The Truck Specialty Center (TSC) Lead functions as a general mechanic and work may include complete mechanical and electrical diagnosis of any breakdown or failure of a motor truck. Performs disassembly, overhaul, adjust or repair of engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, brakes, electrical systems, fuel systems, and any other motor truck related equipment. Uses tools of the trade including precision equipment, welding equipment, shop machines and power tools. Acts as lead to TSC work team members to provide work task direction, training and assist with problem solving.
Responsibilities
Working within the Navistar Operating System (NOS), read and follow written and verbal work instructions and standard operating procedures with emphasis on safety and quality inclusive of:
Demonstrating overall safe work behavior; including the utilization of proper safety equipment and adhering to safety guidelines
Pro-actively reviewing area for hazards, correcting and informing appropriate supervision a necessary
Using diagnostic equipment to detect and isolate faults in medium and heavy-duty vehicles and interpret test results
Reading electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic blueprints
Performing metal fabrication, welding, plasma cutting, electrical wiring,
Performing installation of hydraulic, pneumatic, and complex electronic aftermarket systems
Assisting and teaching other team members with modification procedures
Identifying deviations to Navistar's engineering standards on modifications performed by TSC
Repairing and reassembling parts as necessary
Maintaining work area in a clean and organized manner
Striving for continuous improvement and implement process improvements
Assuring conformance to identified Navistar Quality Standards
Performing all duties as required to maintain quality and productivity
Performing wiring and installation of 3rd party electronics
Performing routing and clipping of wires, air lines, fluid lines
Programming of trucks with multiple diagnostic software systems
Troubleshooting electrical issues, interpret basic wiring schematics
Utilizing Navistar systems to retrieve drawings, special features and truck information
Initiating design change requests for Engineering review and implementing interim corrective action
All other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
At least four years of mechanic work experience in automotive or heavy truck industry
At least two years of lead experience
Additional Requirements
Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Physical Requirements (Ability to do the following up to 10 hours per day):
Walk, stand, sit, bend, twist/turn, kneel, squat, crawl
Climb using both legs and arms
Head/neck movement
Reach outward or above the shoulder
Drive or operate equipment such as lifts and/or motor vehicles
Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 45 pounds
Repetitive use of hands and fingers, both hands
Use of vibrating tools
Depth perception required
Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of color
Exposure to constant and intermittent noise, fumes, smoke and gases, solvents, paint, grease and oils, radiant energy, and slippery surfaces
May be required to work on units outdoors
Must have organization skills and effective communication skills with both technical and professional staff
Ability to troubleshoot problems
Ability to work efficiently and with a sense of urgency
Ability to demonstrate overall safe work behavior, including the utilization of proper safety equipment and adhering to safety guidelines
Desired Skills
ASE Certifications preferred
Technical degree desired
Ability and willingness to work any shift and overtime as needed
Experience and basic proficiency using Microsoft Office
Advanced knowledge of hand tools, ability to disassemble and reassemble using proper equipment.
Advanced knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
Advanced knowledge of industrial safety requirements related to hazardous, flammable, and explosive materials and environments.
Knowledge of preventive maintenance
Experience leading or supervising team
