Navistar, Inc. Senior Electrical Component Test Engineer in Elmendorf, Texas

Position Overview

Navistar is developing leading-edge commercial vehicle solutions to meet the needs of today’s – and tomorrow’s – customers. At the Advanced Technical Center in Elmendorf, TX, the Product Validation department performs testing of Navistar’s future diesel and electric trucks and school buses.

The Electrical Systems and Components Test team performs validation of the electrical and electronic systems of commercial trucks and school buses and their embedded components. In this area, Navistar has need of a Senior Electrical Component Test Engineer to prepare test procedures and execute testing of the components that the electrical systems comprise of.

This testing will encompass electrical transient testing, computer software, serial communication, wiring, and data analysis. The testing will be performed on components that go into Navistar’s diesel vehicles, electric vehicles, and vehicles with autonomous driver assist systems.

Responsibilities

The Senior Electrical Component Test Engineer will provide technical and analytical support to Product Development Engineering to assess whether new vehicle design meet customers’ needs as stated through design requirements.

Test Preparation:

  • Review component design requirements and draft test procedures accordingly

  • Assess and procure assets needed for successful test execution including (but not limited to): software, instrumentation, fixturing, and data acquisition devices

  • Provide feedback to design responsible engineer should there be any ambiguous or incomplete information in their design requirements

  • Guide and direct other engineers with their test preparation

  • Forecast workload and major milestones necessary to complete testing on time

    Test Execution:

  • Execute testing per schedule aligned with program milestones

  • Consistent communication with team lead and requestor

  • Perform root cause analysis for failures seen during testing

  • Guide less experienced engineers when testing doubts arise

    Validation Test Reporting:

  • Report any test failures or anomalies found during Validation testing

  • Lead and assist in root-causing efforts for any failures that occurred during testing

  • Write formal test reports

    General Team Duties:

  • Lead continuous improvement projects for the department

  • Provide input for and identify capital expenditures needed for the group

  • Provide assistance and guidance to engineers with less experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

  • At least 2 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

OR

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States.
