International Manufacturing Engineer - Battery Systems in Elmendorf, Texas

Position Overview

International Corporation, a leading North American truck manufacturer with great products, a strong market position and best-in-class distribution network, has an exciting new opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer - Battery Systems to join our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Team at our Advanced Technology Center in Elmendorf, TX just ouside San Antonio.

The Manufacturing Engineer - Battery Systems will support the development of manufacturing assembly processes for high voltage batteries, battery manufacturing safety procedures, and manufacturing input tied to prototypes and new product development. Travel can be up to 50% at any Navistar plants in US, Mexico, Europe and Asia.

Responsibilities

  • Support product development (R&D) on product concepts.

  • Influence design to ensure manufacturability and DFA

  • Lead role in resolving battery assembly related concerns in prototype builds. Work cross functionally to support manufacturing initiatives, testing, validation and best practices

  • Manage Internal and External Battery Components and Assemblies

  • Develop part fabrication and assembly concepts for new product. Work with internal and cross-brand Manufacturing

  • Engineering on process, facility and equipment effects of assembly concepts.

  • Develop associated assembly equipment and tooling designs.

  • Lead projects from concept thru procurement, installation, and commissioning.

  • Standardize manufacturing processes by benchmarking other facilities’ manufacturing processes and integration best practices and standards into new process development.

  • Assist with development of project workplans, timelines, and resource requirements

  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results

  • Assist with development of process specific equipment.

  • Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment

  • Assist with development of prototype process development, prototype equipment specification, procurement, and installation, and prototype assembly and evaluation as needed.

  • Represents manufacturing on cross-functional and cross brand teams.

  • Assist with development, training, and ongoing support of EV battery and vehicle assembly safety practices and procedures.

  • Capture lessons learned from on-site build events and support all activities to implement improvements to process and equipment

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of quality control processes and procedures through working closely with the quality team and R&D.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 5 years of experience in product manufacturing

OR

  • Master’s degree

  • At least 3 years of experience in product manufacturing

OR

  • At least 7 years of experience in product manufacturing

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills

  • EV battery assembly and vehicle assembly experience highly desired.

  • Proficiency with AutoCad, Unigraphics or NX highly desired

  • MS Project or other project management software

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, is preferred

  • Experience with automated tooling design and procurement, and robitic systems is highly desired

  • Experience with laser welding systems, electronics assembly systems and battery quality testing a plus.

  • Experience with truck or automotive assembly is a plus

  • Proficient in the development and maintenance of pFMEA's, highly desired

  • Detailed analytical skills

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to understand and organize complex sets of data

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work in a timely manner in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision

  • Ability to interact with all levels of management at the local and division levels

  • Proficient MS Office computer skills

  • Ability to take an active role and participate on cross functional teams across multiple brands

  • Proven ability to initiate and support change to the organization
