Major/Essential Functions:

  • Administrative responsibilities:

  • Ensure that each trainee maintains a current & continuous Texas State Board of Dental Examiners permit or that the trainee obtains a full Texas dental license. In conjunction with institutional graduate policies, develop, implement & periodically review program-specific policies that are consistent with Hunt SDM procedures. Ensure that only eligible trainees, according to accreditation requirements, are enrolled in the Program. Timely evaluation of trainee performance occurs. Provide notification to a resident whose performance is judged to be inadequate & provide a plan of remediation. Provide timely verification of residency evaluation & summative performance evaluation for a trainee who leave the Program prior to completion. Obtain written or electronic verification of previous educational experiences & a summative competency-based performance evaluation for a trainee transferring from another program. Provide written notice of intent not to renew an Agreement of Appointment.

  • Program oversight responsibilities:

  • Oversee the activities of the educational program in all participating institutions & participating institutional or clinical sites involved in the training of the program’s trainees. Create clinical rotation & on-call schedules. Structure duty hours & on-call periods to focus on the needs of the patient, continuity of care, & the trainee’s educational needs in compliance with appropriate CODA Gradate training requirements. Revise schedules as needed & communicate revisions to the Office of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery for transmission to the major participating institutions to enable accurate IRIS reporting. Prepare & maintain appropriately executed inter-institutional agreements between the Program & each participating institution. Submit any additions or deletions of participating sites of one-month full time equivalent or more through CODA & review & revise inter-institutional agreements at least every five years.

  • Educational responsibilities:

  • Develop overall program goals & objectives for the educational & clinical experiences by year & level of experience. Periodically review & revise the educational curriculum as defined by CODA requirements. Utilize dependable measures to assess the competence of trainees in the general competencies of patient care, medical/dental knowledge, practice-based learning & improvement, interpersonal & communication skills, professionalism & system-based practice. Develop & utilize dependable measures to assess the competence of trainees in other areas as defined by specialty requirements. Implement a process that links educational outcomes with program improvement. Facilitate the participation of trainees in the educational & scholarly activities of the Program.

  • CODA responsibilities:

  • Development of the goals & objectives of the program & definition of a systematic method of assessing these goals by appropriate outcomes measures. Ensuring the provision of adequate physical facilities for the educational process. Participation in selection & supervision of the teaching staff. Responsibility for adequate educational resource materials for education of the residents. Responsibility for selection of residents & ensuring that all appointed residents meet the minimum requirements. Maintenance of appropriate records of the program, including resident & patient statistics, institutional agreements, & resident records.

  • Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures & processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Due to the broad nature of work found in this job, minimum qualifications for a particular job will be determined by the hiring manager. The qualifications will be commensurate with level and nature of work to be performed.

  • Licensure/certification - D.M.D. or D.D.S. degree, or equivalent degree. Successful completion of CODA-accredited training program in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Texas Dental Licensure, or eligibility for an unrestricted Texas Dental License.
