Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary:

The Imaging Student Extern delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care skills while gaining practical experience and knowledge in imaging principles. Under the supervision of a Registered Radiologic Technologist, the Imaging Student Extern prepares for and assists with x-ray procedures, in accordance with the Extern’s skills/training and the needs of the Department. The Imaging Student Extern is currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of radiography.

Essential Functions:

• Servesastheliaisonbetweenpatientsanddepartmentalphysiciansandothermembersofthesupportteam.

• Obtainspatienthistoriesandscreenspatientsforfactors/conditionsthatmayaffecttheimagingprocedure.

• Transportspatientstoandfromtheprocedurearea.

• Assistsinpreparingandpositioningpatientsforprocedures.Performspatientverificationpriortoprocedure.

• Remainssensitivetothephysicalandemotionalneedsofthepatientthroughgoodcommunication,patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills. Provides basic patient care and comfort.

• NotifiesRadiologicTechnologistofanyemergenciesorconcerns.

• Assistsinimagingroomsetupandturnoverbetweenpatients,ensuringasafeandcleanenvironment.

• Assistswiththemaintenanceandorganizationofradiologysupplies.

• Performsclericalworkasneeded,includinggreetingpatientsandfamilies,registration,filing,answeringand transferring phones, and relaying messages.

• Maintainsconfidentialityofallpatientcareinformationtoassurethatpatient’srightsareprotected.

• Demonstratesanunderstandingofhumananatomy,physiology,pathology,andmedicalterminology.

• Adherestoallfacilitysafetypractices

• Participatesineducationalopportunitiestodevelopoptimalpatientcare,enhancedknowledge,andtechnicalcompetence.

• Performsotherdutiesasassigned.

• Practicesandadherestothe“CodeofConduct”and“MissionandValueStatement.”

• Position may not exceed 180 days in duration

Education and Experience:

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited schoolofRadiography - Preferred

• 1+yearsofimagingeducationcompleted,orasmandatedby stateofpractice - Preferred
