Hackensack Meridian Health Registered Nurse - Breast Center Nurse Navigator - F/T Days in Edison, New Jersey

Overview

The breast center nurse navigator will interface with the breast health team and assist with the coordination of all aspects of screening mammography, diagnostic imaging, clinical evaluation, support services, and education for women receiving services at the breast center. This position provides clinical functions as required in support of breast center services and participates in maintaining a safe, cost effective patient environment. Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide breast health services to our patients.

Responsibilities

  1. Assists physicians and technologists during all breast interventional procedures. Participates in pre biopsy assessment, post biopsy care and patient follow up. Oversees adherence to organizational standards regarding universal protocol and NPSG. Administers PPD and Flu shots to staff.

  2. Serves as a liaison between the breast imaging and surgical teams. Maintain effective physician relationships. Assess and assist patients and their families to identify barriers hindering successful completion of breast evaluation and treatment. Provides information and referrals to appropriate resources. Assist radiologists with diagnostic patient communications. Serve as a resource to patients while providing comfort and kindness.

  3. Tracks biopsy outcomes, records pathology results and problem case resolutions. Assists in maintaining accreditation in ACR and MQSA Responsible for compliance with JCAHO and CMS standards and regulations with regard to patient safety and medications. Actively participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance initiatives to improve patient outcomes and department efficiency. Updates BC staff on any new policy or standard related to nursing, infection control and JCAHO and State compliance.

  4. Works with the department manager towards the success of departmental and organizational goals. Assume leadership responsibilities as needed. Completes e learnings on time.

  5. Participates in outreach and educational events, helping to fulfill community assessed needs. Partners with the Outreach Coordinator and professional community agencies and organizations to achieve improved breast health practices and the well being of women in our community. Seeks grants, clinical trials and other opportunities for research and support to assist in these goals. Provides education about good breast health practices and breast imaging to our community. Provides a comprehensive breast health education program for the Breast Center patients.

  6. Competent in the use of Clinstar, PHS, MRS, PACS, HPF, API and the Cyraphone.

  7. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  8. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Graduate of an approved school of nursing.

  2. IV certification. Strong computer skills.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  1. Acute hospital experience.

Three years of nursing experience.

Oncology experience.

Breast Health experience.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  1. NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.

  2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
