Scope of Job

To provide skills and knowledge for the performance of highly responsible specialized duties in the administration of student financial services, and to serve as an advisor to an assigned caseload of student aid recipients. Responsible for decision making processes requiring initiative and judgment in responding to individual situations. Responsible for applying Office of student Financial Services’ policies to individual student award decisions.

Description of Duties

  • Advises students regarding their financial aid options and responsibilities regarding available programs.

  • Assists students in completing Financial Aid application.

  • Informs students of deadlines.

  • Uses various computer programs to retrieve, verify, process, and analyze different financial aid documents according to federal, state, and university guidelines.

  • Counsels students on payment processes and requirements as well as on alternative sources of funding.

  • Advises students concerning disbursement policies and procedures.

  • Executes professional judgment for students with extenuating circumstances.

  • Delivers and explains to students, parents, and other parties’ rules, regulations and procedures regarding financial aid.

  • Manages applications and other documents required and performs award decisions.

  • Represents office at resource tables and workshops and may assist with the creation and presentation financial aid information.

  • Reviews and updates information concerning financial aid processes and programs.

  • Coordinates special population programs, including preparation of statistical data for reports.

  • Reviews and updates information concerning financial aid processes and programs.

  • Maintains and disseminates knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures regarding financial aid.

  • Maintains knowledge of university processes affecting students such as admissions, registrar and fiscal services.

  • Assists in training of new employees and supervises waged employees in the administration of programs(s).

  • May be assigned responsibility for the initiation, execution, and analysis of a number of projects.

  • Interprets complex rules, regulations, policies and procedures and applies them to student and family situations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervises assigned staff.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications

None.

Required Experience

Two (2) years of work experience in a closely related field to the duties being performed or one (1) year work experience in Financial Aid.

Preferred Experience

Work experience in Financial aid.

Equipment

Proficient in MS Microsoft Office products and ability to learn other software programs.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Usual office environment.

Other

Must have strong interpersonal and communications skills as well as excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented. Ability to multi-task and respond effectively in a variety of situations and work effectively in team situations, as well as being able to demonstrate computational ability. Requires some travel and flexibility to work evening and/or weekends.
