Responsibilities

The Eau Claire Department of Orthopedics is a sub-specialized, dynamic, and expanding practice with over 20 providers in total, including 10 Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants.

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will work in a one-on-one care model with a collaborating and/or supervising physician to provide care for patients with traumatic injuries primarily in adults/geriatrics with occasional pediatric populations. The practice includes: an independent clinic treating patient’s complaints, primarily fractures; inpatient rounding, consults, and care coordination; and surgical first assistance in the operating room. The NPPA will order and interpret diagnostic tests; prescribe pharmacological agents and non-pharmacological treatments and therapies; promote wellness and prevention; perform teaching and counseling for patients and families; assess patient needs; develop treatment plans, implement and evaluate results; communicate with the healthcare team, patients, families, (employers, insurers, agencies, etc. as appropriate) to coordinate a patient centered plan of care. They apply principles of continuous improvement to all aspects of the job performance.

The department of orthopedics does encompass several subspecialties including Sports, Adult Reconstruction, Hand, and Trauma. We do work together as a team to provide for all orthopedic needs. The NPPA will intermittently work with other providers in other subspecialties to accomplish this goal.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current WI RN and APRN license and certification as an FNP or ANP.

Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the WI State Board of Medical Practice.

Schedule Details

Position includes clinic, OR, hospital rounding, and on call responsibilities. Clinic and OR hours may vary but are between 7:00am-5:00pm. Calls are evenly distributed on a yearly basis. NP/PA’s do not take primary call on night and weekends but are expected to be available.

Weekend Schedule

Call approximately is 1 in 8 and does include nights and weekends. The call schedule is available well in advance.
