The Clinical Education Specialist is a clinical leader who assesses, develops, implements and evaluates educational programs and projects that support and improve the provision of quality, cost effective and compassionate patient care.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the educational activities of the assigned entity/department.

  • Assesses, designs, facilitates, implements and evaluates aspects of the professional and clinical development of nursing staff through education, competence, programs, and projects

  • Demonstrates leadership skills and coordinates the education and training activities

  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, assess staff performance, and facilitate implementation of new practices in patient care

  • Collaborates with medical staff colleagues to develop and implement education and training associated with new technologies, procedures, and other patient care-related activities

  • Assesses learning needs of staff and provides opportunities to enhance ongoing education and development through mentoring, teaching and clinical support

  • Identifies, develops and/or provides classroom and clinical experiences to support the learning of new and current nursing personnel

  • Assists unit leadership with the coordination, scheduling and evaluation of unit-based orientation for new employees

  • Develops and implements practice related competencies

  • Assists with the development and provision of patient education, collaborating with patient, family, and health care professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes

  • Contributes to the development and change of the health care delivery system by facilitating innovations in practice, education, research and technology

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 6 hours per day; 3 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 20 minutes at a time. Frequently use hands and fingers. Consistently lift, carry and push objects up to 50 lbs. Transport patients weighing up to 250 lbs. via wheelchair, bed, and/or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.

EDUCATION:

Graduate of recognized RN program. Bachelor’s degree required; Masters degree in nursing in progress with completion expected within 18-24 months.

Current RN license in the State of New Jersey or Pennsylvania, based on work location, required.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

3 years direct clinical experience in neonatal or pediatric patient care in an acute healthcare setting; clinical experience should be current. Demonstrated leadership skills in the clinical environment. Current experience providing professional staff development, education, and competence assessment desirable. Demonstrated success as a nurse preceptor. Works well in a changing environment. Challenged by work diversification. Specialty certification (i.e. NRP, NALS) desirable. BLS required.
