Nexstar Media Group Digital Producer in East Syracuse, New York
NewsChannel 9 WSYR-TV an immediate opening for a Digital Producer for its award-winning website and digital platforms. LocalSYR.com has received multiple honors, including the 2014 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award.
The Digital Producer leads the transition from broadcast focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms through active daily example; providing training in methods, processes and tactics; as well as in creating/editing original content beyond that which is produced for on-air.
Develops and leads winning strategy for station content
Expert understanding of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms
Reviews copy and will correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
Use the station’s Social Media and Website to build and reinforce brand recognition and drive viewers to television
Strong writing and editing skills, with attention to detail and knowledge of AP style
Proficiency in web content management systems such as WordPress
Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of online news journalism and best practices
Basic clipping and editing of video for digital delivery
Optimizing on-air assets for our various digital platforms
Determine a story’s emphasis, length, format and organizes material accordingly
Creates engaging stories, videos and imagery for our viewers specific to platforms
Posting updates and content to our station’s website and social media handles
Flexibility with working any and all shifts, including nights and/or weekends
Copy editing and correcting content across our various digital platforms
Gathers information through research, interviews, experience, or attendance of events
Ensures that all content meets station standards for integrity and production quality
Advanced experience with Instagram, TikTok and other short-video platforms preferred.
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in journalism and newsroom experience preferred
Compensation $16.50/hour commensurate with applicant’s experience and skill level.

Typical day
This individual will need to maintain awareness of external social media conversations and manage our own posts across all accounts through the day while also scheduling holdable content for off hours. Regular metric analysis and reporting will result in constant updates to strategy that need to be communicated, likely focusing on updated messaging to different groups weekly. This individual will also play a central role in the execution of our evolving newsletter strategy.

Consistently seek to grow audience to your bylined stories.
Grow the social media base of the station and regularly promote links to stories.
COMPENSATION - $16.50/hour commensurate with applicant’s experience and skill level.
