Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H Educator & Camp Director - East Syracuse, NY in East Syracuse, New York
This position will serve as 4-H Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Onondaga County, focusing on supporting Onondaga 4-H Youth Development and serving as Camp Director at 4-H Summer Camps. Duties will include but are not limited to tracking/recording planning and development, implementation, and operation of successful educational programs, aimed at individual youth development. The Educator will serve as a member of the 4-H Youth Development team to deliver and assist with development, implementation, and evaluation of 4-H Youth Development programs. The Educator will be responsible for promoting program objectives and plans in all areas of 4-H Youth Development programming with emphasis on Teen Council, Animal Science, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Natural Resources, 4-H Shooting Sports, Healthy Lifestyles, Farm-to-School, and Afterschool programming initiatives. As 4-H Camp Director, the primary responsibilities of this position are to oversee daily operation and the implementation of summer programming (including archery, environmental education, organized sports, arts and crafts, and other programs as assigned). The 4-H Camp Director will also support the expansion of summer programming as new audiences are reached and new programming is developed.

POSITION DETAILS:
This position is a full-time non-exempt position - 100% FTE, 37.5 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $23.00 to $26.00 commensurate with experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree or equivalent education (Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of transferrable relevant evidence-based research experience).
Experience relevant to the role of the position.
Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse audiences and in a team environment.
Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive information following Association policies.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs with ability to continue building technological skill set.
Ability to deliver outdoor programming in all weather.
Ability to work effectively in a remote office location if needed
Current certification in CPR, First Aid, & AED.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Responsibilities:
Development - 20%
Support the application of subject matter knowledge to develop 4-H Youth Development education programming.
Apply high level subject matter knowledge to support the development of educational strategies to meet identified needs within the county and region and to meet grant requirements.
Support the creation of innovative educational programs that are reflective of, and responsive to, the needs of the diverse community.
Assist in the development of program materials to address the needs of clients and program participants.
Work with other Associations and Cornell faculty/area teams for program development guidance.
Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research - 60%
Utilize established program resources and materials in program work.
Implement already-established 4-H educational programming and activities in support of other 4-H programming efforts as identified/needed to support the established Plan of Work.
Apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans as identified.
Provide 4-H educational programs via mass media.
Deliver outdoor programming and activities.
Perform lesson assessments and data records.
Work to foster acceptance of the 4-H program, methods and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences.
Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and 4-H Program Staff to achieve Association program delivery goals.
Implement program evaluation as designed.
Interact with program participants to obtain evaluation data, to include: evaluating effectiveness of activities within program area.
Assist Team Leader in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings.
Communicate evaluation findings to constituents as appropriate.
Specific to 4-H Summer Camps:
Implement and support camper activities and programs.
Communicate with parents and/or guardians of youth participants to address concerns, best prepare for programming, and support the development of the youth.
Evaluate programs of 4-H Camp Staff throughout the summer
Support Team Leader in the completion of the Youth Program Quality Assessment.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction and Management - 10%
Assist in the planning of outdoor and indoor activities that encourage individual students’ emotional and social growth.
Assist in the planning and promotion of major public events and programs including, but not limited to: assisting with mass media efforts.
Assist in identifying opportunities for 4-H fund development activities.
Assist the Team Leader in the development of pre-camp training for counseling staff.
Under the direction of the Team Leader, provide program guidance to program staff in accordance with established practices and procedures.
Assist Team Leader in identifying and recommending program needs (i.e. program supplies and materials).
Monitor direct and indirect contacts within 4-H Youth Development programming.
Provide guidance and support to staff, ability to address campers’ special needs, conflict mediation (campers and/or staff), and special concerns (campers and/or staff).
Maintain a safe camping environment and abide by all DOH regulations.
Provide program guidance and information to volunteers as needed.
Coordination/Operation - 5%
Assist with event/program setup and tear down.
Organize and coordinate activities related to 4-H Programming.
Provide administrative support for fund development activities as identified.
Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.
Coordinate and compile outreach brochures and newsletters.
Effectively maintain professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.
Perform record keeping and clerical functions (e.g., copying, correcting papers, form preparation, attendance, phone calls, etc.) to provide necessary records/materials and helping students succeed.
This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
