Position Summary

The Coordinator of Transgender Student Support (CTSS) coordinates, implements, and maintains the services or programs as an advisor, advocate, and resource to Transgender students as well as other members of the MSU LGBTQIA2S+ community. The CTSS is responsible for identifying and addressing the academic, intellectual, social, cultural, recreational, educational, and political needs of Transgender students. The CTSS's work focuses on the general well-being of all Transgender students on campus and the T-REx designated floors and collaboration with students and campus colleagues to address issues of diversity, campus climate, culture, and inclusion. The CTSS also serves as an advisor and resource to allies.

The Coordinator of Transgender Student Support (CTSS) is an important team member in The Gender and Sexuality Campus Center (GSCC) with a focus on supporting and uplifting the voice of the Transgender community at MSU; this team member also works closely with Residence Education and Housing Services (REHS) in their joint support of the Transgender Residential Experience (T-REx) initiative.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and advocate for the Transgender community at MSU and the T-REx residential floors across MSU.
  • Facilitate educational spaces regarding the Transgender population and their specific needs across MSU residential communities and campus as a whole.
  • Assist Transgender and non-binary students to foster a strong sense of self, to strengthen their community.
  • Build alliances with other communities, departments, and campus entities.
  • Coordinates, implements, and maintains services and programming.
  • Gathers information from various sources and synthesizes in order to make determinations, decisions, and recommendations.
  • Develops and implements procedures or relevant policies for services and programs.
  • Assists and advises students in setting and attaining personal goals and objectives.
  • Advises, consults, and represents unit with various constituents, committees, community and University groups regarding services/programs.
  • Prepares materials for advocate training, publicity, orientation, and makes presentations.
  • Conducts special projects and programs as requested.

Primary Responsibilities:  

Serve as a leader and team member of The Gender and Sexuality Campus Center.

Serve as a resource, advocate, and representative to students and the institution as requested on Transgender issues, topics, and concerns.  

Advise transcend and Transaction (transcend and Transaction are the student leadership organizations that represent and serve the needs of the Transgender community in the residence halls and the university as a whole).  

Maintain tangible, sustainable, and authentic relationships with students and student leadership organizations in the residence halls (RHA) and on campus (CORES & COPS, ASMSU, UACORE, OGA), and other departments/units/colleges across campus.   

Support, attend, and participate in departmental and university-wide functions, meetings, and programs, and serve on various committees, leadership teams, task forces and collaboratives, including evening and weekend activities.  

Assist in university audits of policies and procedures, especially those related to the Transgender community.  

Work closely with Residence Education and Housing Services (Community/Resident Directors, Assistant Hall Directors, and Resident Assistants), MRULE-ICA program (Intercultural Aides), Housing Assignments office staff members and other SLE units.   

Responsible for managing an allocated budget for their programmatic initiatives and programs.  

Provides leadership to assigned DEIB teams in SLE and across campus.
