Position Summary

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the facilities operations including housekeeping, maintenance and custodial activities required to maintain the physical facilities of the complex.
  • Develops, monitors and controls the facilities budget of the complex. Prepares periodic reports including financial forecasts in order to ensure compliance with Departmental expectations and budget.
  • Coordinates long-range maintenance plans with the Physical Plant and Construction, Maintenance & Interior Design including building alterations, furnishings and equipment acquisitions for the complex.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, evaluates and disciplines the subordinate supervisory and support staff of the complex.
  • Inspects buildings in order to ensure that University, State and Federal safety and mandated compliance regulations are followed and to check on quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Assists in coordination of special events, projects, daily activities and conference service for the complex. Provides technical advice and supervises repair and maintenance of the facilities and building equipment for the complex.
  • Interacts with complex residents, parents, faculty and staff in order to answer questions, resolve problems, solicit input, provide support and counsel, assist with concerns and provide information.
  • Assists in planning and organizing objectives and long-range programs for Departmental operations. Assists in preparing Departmental budgets and reviews financial projections and expenditures of funds for the complex. Makes recommendations for Departmental organizational changes and/or equipment applications.

Interacts With:

Co-workers - in order to obtain advice, discuss current policies, procedures and review new information.

Complex Operations and Dining Services Managers - in order to discuss the maintenance services required, deadlines and customer questions. Collaborate and provide feedback with to ensure high quality, living accommodations, housing/support services and food service operations.

Supervisory Staff - in order to discuss projects and staffing, assist in staff planning, review status of operations, evaluate progress and resolve problems.

Regular/Student Supervisors/Employees - in order to assign and supervise crew activities, review status of operations, evaluate progress and conduct meetings, clarify problems and provide assistance.

Clerical Support Staff - in order to review current status of operations, provide direction and address needs, concerns and duties.

Union Representatives - in order to discuss contract administration, inquiries, grievances and general information.

Physical Plant/Maintenance/Engineering Services/Outside Contractors - in order to clarify work orders, expedite one or more of their services or ensure that specifications are adhered to and repairs are completed.

RHS Administrators - in order to request special funding, budget distributions and assist in staff planning.

University Department Representatives - in order to exchange information in order to explain and coordinate services. Maintain health and safety standards to ensure compliance with University, State and Federal regulations.

Purchasing - in order to discuss routine and emergency purchase orders and restocking materials.

Vendor/Consultants/Engineers - in order to discuss proposals, projects, material and equipment evaluations in order to purchase new or replacement items.

Faculty - in order to respond to requests for services, discuss problems, provide support, and exchange information.
