Position Summary

Research Associate, Department of Entomology

The laboratories of Drs. Wilson and Isaacs in the Department of Entomology at MSU invite applications for a Research Associate (postdoctoral) position to study applied insect ecology in fruit crops, with a focus on climate change effects on pest phenology and management.

The position will include field-based research and supporting laboratory research on management of pests in fruit crops, with emphasis on analysis of current and historical insect phenology data. Funding is from a new program on climate resilient agriculture, and the position has potential to provide connection to related ongoing research across the college. This position is well supported by research technicians, the collaborative network of university-based research and extension staff, and network of growers working with our lab groups. 

The initial appointment is for one year with additional one year funding expected based on job performance.

Required Degree

Doctorate - ecology, entomology, biology

Minimum Requirements

Ph.D. in entomology, ecology, statistics, biological control, pest management, biology or related fields with evidence of a successful publication record and ability to work in teams with people from diverse backgrounds. Fieldwork will take place across the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, thus candidates must possess a valid driver's license.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience managing large datasets • Expertise in data analysis and technical writing • Experience with entomology fieldwork  • Demonstrated capacity to manage people in fieldwork settings • Demonstrated evidence of research publications   • Availability to start work during fall 2024 or early 2025

Experience working with fruit crops is desired, but applicants with a strong pest management and/or data analysis in other crop systems are encouraged to apply.
