Position Summary

The College of Nursing at Michigan State University seeks applications for a full-time Research Assistant I. This position will coordinate and manage daily operations, activities, and all phases of the research study including recruitment, data collection, intervention, and dissemination. The Research Assistant will assist in hiring, training, and supervising study personnel; leading recruiting of participants and data collection; purchasing supplies and equipment; monitoring data and budget; facilitating contractual agreements; arranging travel, scheduling and planning study events and team meetings; maintaining institutional review board compliance; and communicating effectively with all study staff and partners. The position will work closely with the PI, co-investigators, other study staff, and key collaborators to meet study objectives. The Research Assistant will be responsible for completing IRB, HIPAA, and Good Clinical Practice training required by MSU, NIH and study sites, and complete MSU Travel Authorization Form. This position will physically work on the campus of MSU in East Lansing, MI with the possibility of a hybrid work schedule. 

*Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities *

  • Assists in coordinating the research and field operations including maintaining a study calendar for grant-related activities, participant recruitment, data collection, intervention, events, etc.
  • Oversees the study needs and consults with the PI on any study issues or concerns as well as planning of field work.
  • Performs and understands the duties of each area of study in order to assist in hiring, recruiting and training study personnel.
  • Monitors budget including ordering supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Maintains research equipment and periodically checks it is in proper order to ensure functionality.
  • Communicates with the PI for clarification and assists with problem solving as necessary.
  • Serves as the study resource person with internal and external individuals and study sites.
  • Communicates effectively with all study staff and partners.
  • Maintains study compliance with MSU's Institutional Review Board, HIPAA, quality control procedures, data safety and monitoring plan, and study objectives and timeline
  • Assists in compiling, recording and summarizing data and participates in preparing/editing reports (periodic and scheduled), articles and manuscripts for publication.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Desired Qualifications

A valid driver's license is required.
