Position Summary

A Physical Therapist Assistant is a licensed healthcare professional who works under the supervision of a physical therapist to help patients improve their mobility and functional abilities. They provide hands-on treatment, assist with therapeutic exercises, and support patients in their recovery process.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school with an Associates degree in Physical Therapist Assistant from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE); six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in administering physical therapy treatments; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant by the State of Michigan.

Summary of Physical Demands

The job requires significant physical effort and involves performing stretching/resistance exercises for patients, lifting patients from wheel chairs, moving equipment, demonstrating exercises 26 to 75% of the time.

Summary of Health Risks

Exposure to human blood, serum, and other body fluids; and materials covered under Universal Precautions; TB risk or work within three (3) feet of patients in a health care setting; wear a respirator.
