Position Summary

Michigan State University is seeking a technical analyst with experience supporting IBM's Master Data Management (MDM). This role within MSU's Information Technology team supports MDM with data accuracy, integrity, and usability of our mastered data. With collaboration of numerous university partners, this individual will play a pivotal role in development activities, daily operational needs of MDM data, supporting partners with data quality, and departments use of MDM data.  This position reports to the manager of the Data Stewardship team.   

The Data Stewardship team within MSU IT's Enterprise Services group, supports activities for Master Data Management, Information Governance Catalog, and stewards data usage in and out of MSU's enterprise data warehouse. We support integrations to new systems, and changes for core systems as data needs change over time. Data Stewards understand functional usage of key university data sets and how to navigate internal IT groups to support functional units access to the data. 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Defining and documenting business requirements, acts as an independent resource to provide enhancements to IBM MDM rules, configuration, and sources.

     

  • Troubleshoots and manages existing IBM MDM code for University Advancement (UA) and collaborates with the UA teams, MSU IT Stewardship, Warehouse, and ETL teams as needed.

     

  • Deliverables include code development, code optimizations, API creation and support, requirements gathering, support functional staff with data validation efforts, and provide initial validation of code changes.

     

  • Develop and implement the creation, maintenance, and synchronization of master data records across various systems and platforms, including the student information system (SIS), HR, UA, Athletics, and others.

     

  • Develop and implement data cleansing, normalization, and enrichment processes to eliminate duplicates, inconsistencies, and inaccuracies from IBM master data sets. Work directly with IBM support to address platform issues and coordinate troubleshooting between IBM and MSU IT staff.

     

  • Collaborate with the Information Technology team to configure and optimize IBM MDM tools and systems for effective data management, accessibility, and security.

     

  • In collaboration with university departments and data stewards, conduct regular audits and assessments to evaluate the quality, completeness, and accuracy of master data assets.

     

  • Identify data quality issues, root causes, and opportunities for improvement through data profiling, validation, and exception handling.

  • Partner with departments and data stewards to understand master data requirements, priorities, and master data management business rules.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on MDM-related matters and provide guidance and support to team members and university stakeholders.
