Position Summary

Join the dynamic Custodial team and help support MSU's mission of advancing knowledge and transforming lives! You'll use top cleaning methods, equipment, and standards in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment, ensuring MSU's facilities remain clean, safe, and beautiful.

Pay rate: $19.58 - $20.61 upon meeting probationary period requirements. MSU Benefits - Free comprehensive health care for you and your family as well as a 10% contribution toward your retirement; Generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time; This position is not eligible for remote work. Regular, in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.

This position will work a varied schedule including days, late nights and weekends as necessary to support university events. Employee will typically be scheduled two weeks in advance to provide custodial support to university events and support other campus departments during the summer months or slow times for events.

Job responsibilities are as follows:

40% - Cleaning (restrooms, arena seating areas, sweeping/dusting, mopping floors). Refurbishing, repairing, and occasional painting of equipment; receive and store supplies.

25% - Collecting recyclables/trash, and outdoor debris (assist with landscaping outdoor labor)

15% - Event set-up and tear down.

10% - Snow removal.

10% - Correspondence through email, training, meetings, and professional development.

Staff will have a specific event building as primary assignment but may be assigned throughout the university to satisfy demands for labor. This position is located in the Breslin Center and various other campus buildings.

Minimum Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator's license may be necessary.

  • Possession or attainment of MSU Forklift operator's permit prior to completion of applicable probation or trial period.

  • Frequent lifting of over 75 pounds is required.

  • Must drive University vehicle to perform job duties of this classification.
