Position Summary

This position provides Civil Engineering support, applying diverse principles and practices. Responsibilities include independent decision-making for a large academic institution, visual inspections, analysis, design, standards development, and support of maintenance operations. The role involves managing/supporting project teams for new construction, campus utility systems, road infrastructure, restorations, building alterations, and facility improvements. It includes reviewing project drawings, specifications, estimates, schedules, and ensuring compliance with design intent and campus standards. Collaboration with senior engineers and project managers on designs, studies, planning, and troubleshooting is required. The role also involves developing drawings in AutoCAD/CIVIL 3D and ArcGIS, assisting staff with plans and specifications, issuing construction directives, and providing technical support to various departments.

Duties associated with this position involves working at construction sites, access to work areas by ladder, scaffold, hatchways, ramps, and similar means; outdoor work on a variety of floor and ground surfaces including climbing and entry into confined spaces; visual inspection of construction work as essential elements of construction inspection, analysis, and support of maintenance operations functions. Successful candidate must be innovative and communicate well in a team environment and with campus stakeholders. The position maybe be on-call for emergencies on projects they are assigned outside of normal working hours.

The breakdown of job responsibilities are as follows:  40%: Works in a team environment on projects with the project manager and other discipline experts to design solutions. Develops plans and specifications for new construction, campus utility systems, road infrastructure, building alterations, improvements to campus facilities and equipment. Develops project/planning drawings in AutoCAD/CIVIL 3D and ArcGIS as required.  Reviews projects in the field to determine if the work follows the design intent and reports findings to the project manager as field work progresses. Provides technical support for troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining systems of a complex nature.

25%: Works closely with other team members and campus customers to integrate their discipline specific requirements to ensure the project design is comprehensive and works well with other trades. Integrates innovative products or methods into the design of projects whenever practical. Maintains and provides discipline specific construction standards and technical assistance by working with maintenance staff and other IPF departments in an advisory role for campus facilities and equipment when requested. Completes (or gives outside consultants' direction) on Facility Asset Data Exchange (FADE) requirements. Works closely with the mapping coordinator and maintenance operations to ensure Campus Utility Infrastructure Maps and GIS information to develop spatial thematic maps for engineering analysis and to ensure the GIS information is accurate.

15%: Provides technical direction to outside consultants on design standards for building and utility systems as well as completeness of design for new construction, alterations and improvements to campus facilities and equipment.  Completes plan review of outside consultants' work and offers suggestions for improvements and innovation p
