Prevention Education Outreach Specialist - Full Time - Monday through Friday - 8:30a to 4:30p

PURPOSE/SCOPE OF POSITION

The Prevention Education and Outreach Specialist at The Retreat is responsible for helping prevent abuse, promote respect and healthy relationships throughout our community, and build awareness about The Retreat and our many free and confidential support services for people experiencing abuse in relationships.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach school-based (primarily high school level, but including all grades) and community-based (for youth-serving professionals, parents, and community members) abuse prevention workshops, including healthy relationship skill building and preventing bullying, domestic violence/dating violence, and sexual abuse in both English and Spanish

  • Build student and community involvement through outreach, including traditional and social media campaigns and communication

  • Translate materials from English to Spanish and facilitate in-person and online workshops and presentations in English and Spanish

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree in Social Work or Education or related field is preferred. 2+ years of experience in any of the following areas: community outreach, education, social work, mental health, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the duties of the position. Previous experience presenting information to groups in person or online. Must understand sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking through education, previous work, or volunteer experience. Must be willing to continue building knowledge in the field.

    Required capabilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with school administrators, teachers, and students

  • Ability to provide education through group workshops and one-on-one meetings

  • Experience working with all ages ranging from kindergarten to adult, with emphasis on the ability to work with teens through the Teen Leadership Council and school presentations

  • Ability to maintain a trauma-informed and caring approach to connecting with students and community members

  • Ability to utilize social media for outreach and communication purposes

  • Must be fluent in Microsoft Office and Google Suite

    Other requirements:

  • Must have a valid New York State Driver's License (required) and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed)

  • Fingerprint clearance required
