Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The RN provides nursing care to patients in compliance
with the SC Nurse Practice Act, Standards of Practice and defined by ANA, SFH
SC, and organization protocols, policies, procedures and guidelines. Develops,
implements, evaluates and revises plan of care based on physical, psychosocial,
spiritual, and educational needs of the patient/family. Assesses patient for
changes that may hinder recovery.
Collaborates with staff, physicians, and other disciplines to provide quality care
delivery. Maintains clinical knowledge and skills competency to facilitate patient
care in accordance with current standards of practice. Provides for a safe patient
care environment.
II. Employment Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
Experience: Must have a Diploma or Associate Degree with five (5) years of experience in nursing practice or a BSN with three (3) years of experience or an MSN in nursing with two (2) years’ experience in area of specialty.
Licensure, Registration, or Certification: National Nursing certification in an approved nursing specialty. Current Licensure with the South Carolina Board of Nurse Examiners. Successful performance at a Clinical Nurse II level for orientation and probationary period, recommendation of clinical manager and meet the requirements of the Clinical Ladder Program.
III. Essential Job Functions
The RN demonstrates necessary skills and abilities to:
Perform comprehensive physical assessment of patient’s clinical condition and psychosocial needs inclusive of family needs. Subsequently develops plan of care based on findings that comply with current nursing standards.
Implement plan of care safely and efficiently.
Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions, patient outcomes, and revises planned care accordingly.
Collaborates with and assists staff, physicians, and other health team personnel in the delivery of coordinated patient delivery.
Communicates relevant information to other members of the health care team.
Aware of and works to attain (maintain) the quality improvement standards of the unit.
Maintains clinical skills competencies.
Maintains patient records and charts to ensure accurate communication and continuity of patient’s medical treatment and nursing care. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to provide professional care delivery to patients of various ages and cultures.
Assesses patient’s physical and emotional response to treatment.
Assist patient/family in coping with patients’ illness.
Attends all mandatory in-services and required staff meetings.
Recognizes own limitations and seeks assistance and acquires sufficient information necessary to function effectively in assigned health care setting.
Integrates cost-effective measure into practice.
Performs nursing care according to standards of care, with hospital policy and procedure; and the St. Francis mission.
Advances personal professional growth through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services, and workshops.
Demonstrates ability to function under supervision.
Assign patient care according to the nursing skill, knowledge, and scope of practice of staff.
Assesses the needs of the unit of educational and discharge planning needs of patients.
Assess the need within the unit for care planning conferences or case reviews and independently initiates such conferences as required.
Develops and evaluates Standards of Nursing Care (Practice).
Evaluates the effectiveness of new treatment modes or methods of practice.
Facilitates the learning experience of student nurses and externs.
Participates in orientation of new staff members, externs.
Encourages peers to seek educational opportunities and uses knowledge to teach others.
Demonstrates ability to act as a clinical role model to other staff members regarding appropriate care.
Assists in the identification, action, planning, and evaluation of unit goals.
Demonstrates qualities of leadership in daily practice.
Demonstrates accountability for nursing practice and for professional work environment.
Participates in unit-based QA program.
Acts as a liaison with specific MD/Services to improve communication and understanding.
Utilizes resources available within hospital and community to meet patient care needs.
Achieves and maintains BLS certification.
Adheres to Standard Precautions/Isolation Protocol at all times.
