Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Wildlife Health Forensic Laboratory, in Eagle, Idahois seeking an experienced person to serve as a Wildlife Health Technician. The successful candidate will assist the Wildlife Health Laboratory staff in day-to-day laboratory processes and will participate in IDFGs statewide wildlife health program.

The position hours will be between 25-32 hours per week, four to five days a week, 5-8 hours a day. This is a limited service benefitted-temporary position and cannot exceed 1385 hours annually. Benefits include medical, retirement, holiday, sick and vacation leave.

Pay: \$17.32/hour

Wildlife Health Technicians routinely work with wildlife health and disease samples and will assist with necropsies of wildlife carcasses in various states of decay. This position is primarily laboratory based, but on occasion, may involve walking for several hours in rugged terrain, handling wild animals, working in extreme weather conditions, lifting and carrying up to 65 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities:

Perform sample intake, accessioning, handling and processing for incoming necropsy and wildlife health samples. Responsible for inventory and management of samples, sample packaging and shipping, sampling supplies, and storage facilities. This will include data entry and database management. Provide day-to-day laboratory support, customer service, and staffing. This may include transporting samples and/or materials around the state, answering customer phone calls, preparing hunter surveillance kits, and working on field projects as needed. This may also include assisting the Wildlife Veterinarian with necropsies or live animal health assessments, subsampling tissues/biological fluids, preparing sample shipments, and performing DNA extractions or nutrition analyses. Perform routine facility and vehicle maintenance, and other assigned tasks as needed.
