Gopher Resource LLC Production Shift Supervisor (Nights) in Eagan, Minnesota
Description Position Overview: The Shift Supervisor oversees assigned people and processes within operations to help ensure safety, productivity and customer requirements are met. This position is scheduled for 12-hour shifts covering 5:30pm - 5:30am on a 4 days on/4 days off work schedule. Critical Success Criteria: Ensure employees are trained on and follow safety and environmental health procedures to help protect people and the environment Meet or exceed departmental objectives through consistent team execution of standard work and KPI's operating within control limits; develop and execute action plans, with appropriate consultation, to correct deviations Plan and schedule staff to meet daily production needs; coordinate the plan with leads on shift Set performance expectations, ensuring team has the equipment and training to complete their tasks, monitor work performance results and provided feedback and coaching as necessary Responsibilities: Develop production staff to ensure they are properly trained on operating procedures, operation of equipment, and safety guidelines; develop lead production staff in basic supervisory skills Conduct rounds to check on all gauges, controls, equipment, and document stats on log sheets for permanent record keeping Respond to any health issues according to basic first aid guidelines and engage onsite medical teams as necessary Review maintenance work performed during the shift to ensure productivity is on track; adjust maintenance priorities as necessary to reflect any critical malfunctions during the shift Participate in management discussions related to the operation of the production plant Report shift statistics at the end of shift and assist the next shift manager with the transition to ensure continuous operation of the plant; make rounds with incoming shift supervisor to review the status of the plant prior to shift change Recommend equipment upgrades, workforce adjustments, process modifications; may recommend product or service modifications Enforce employee attendance policies and procedures through the shift Consult with Manager to ensure new processes are accurately documented; when gaps are identified, coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and other production leaders to get resolved Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management Requirements: High School Diploma or GED minimally required Previous work experience supervising and directing a frontline production workforce via both data and observations and engagement Previous work experience within a heavy industrial manufacturing setting Ability to promote a positive team atmosphere and continuous improvement culture Ability to read, interpret, and apply labor contract and work rules Technical proficiency with data from Operations Systems, as well as Microsoft applications including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word Excellent ability to prioritize, maintain composure and focus during high-stress and urgent situations Effective, professional communication skills - including active listening, professional email and messaging, and ability to communicate information and work directives in a clear and concise manner Strong interpersonal skills including conflict management and resolution skills Good organization skills Willingness to maintain required certifications (Basic First Aid, CPR, Haz Waste) and participate in required training Willingness and ability to wear a full-face respirator mask directly against skin with or without reasonable accommodation Willingness and ability to work in a hot/high temperature production facility while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas with or without reasonable accommodation Preferred Qualifications: Postsecondary degree in Business, Engineering, Management, or Sciences from accredited College or University preferred, but not required 5+ years of previous work experience supervising a frontline production workforce preferred, but not required Prev ous work experience supervising union employees preferred, but not required Strong understanding of lead/steel/aluminum/stainless steel or similar alloy processing in a 24/7/365 environment preferred, but not required Lean/Six Sigma training/experience strongly preferred, but not required Proficient technical skills in mechanical engineering and maintenance of machinery and equipment preferred, but not required Equal Opportunity Employer/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities The contractor will not discharge or in any other manner discriminate against employees or applicants because they have inquired about, discussed, or disclosed their own pay or the pay of another employee or applicant.
