What You Will Do :

We are currently searching for a Laboratory Biologist. This position will support research in our lab which includes coordination of research tasks with PI and other members of the lab, conducting experiments, generating, analyzing, and interpreting data as well as drafting data and method summaries for scientific presentations and publications. This position will support development of advanced complex 2D co-cultures/3D in vitro models of the female reproductive tract using human cell cultures; and will support experiments using DNA, RNA/transcriptomics, RT-PCR, protein/westerns, andimmunofluorescence/confocal approaches for molecular mechanistic and translational toxicology research. The position will provide technical mentoring to trainees and other lab staff. This is a full-time opportunity located in Durham, NC.

  • Perform cell culture and biochemistry experiments, including basic tissue culture techniques, isolation of proteins from tissues/cells, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data for experimental results; prepare tables and figures.

  • Maintain and update laboratory notebooks and equipment.

  • Evaluate new technologies and instruments resulting in proposals for new screening strategies and novel assay formats.

  • Analyze the experiment results and present findings in project meetings, laboratory, and outside meetings.

  • Present and communicate results with Project Team and staff.

  • Collaborate with staff on cutting-edge cell biology and bioassay technologies for the development of disease-relevant assays for screening.

  • Develop and optimize novel bioanalytical methods based on the future needs.

  • Write and review technical protocols and reports documenting analytical development studies pertaining to assigned work.

  • Write experiment reports and prepare manuscripts for publication in collaboration with other investigators.

  • Support cell-based projects with tissue culture; cell culture maintenance including stem cells.

  • Perform assays to validate antibodies western blot analysis, ELISA, and immunoprecipitation.

  • Conduct research experiments that will determine the effects of food, drugs, serums, hormones and other substances on tissues and processes of living organisms.

  • Work with staff in the design, implementation, interpretation, and reporting of bioanalytical method development and sample analysis.

What You Will Need :

  • Master’s Degree

  • A minimum of FOUR (4) years of experience in scientific research, clinical research, laboratory setting, and/or related science experience.

  • Experience in Microscopy including any of the following skills: confocal, electron, multi-photon, fluorescence, and/or super resolution.

  • Previous experience with polymerase chain reaction (PCR), qPCR, RT-PCR, RTqPCR

  • Familiarity with immunocytochemistry, in-situ hybridization and/or fluorescent in-situ hybridization, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)

  • Previous Animal handling with non-human primates

  • Maintaining stock solutions

  • Knowledge and experience with nucleic acid extraction, primary cell culture, protein purification, immunohistochemistry, gel electrophoresis, immunoprecipitation, northern blotting, and/or manuscript writing

  • Experience with equipment maintenance, inventory management, and/or ordering supplies.

  • Previous experience with tissue dissection and sectioning

  • Proficient in using Microsoft PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Excel, and/or Word.

  • Proficiency in Linux, SAS, and/or R

What Would Be Nice To Have :

  • Previous experience with the National Institute of Health (NIH).

  • Prefer candidates with certifications in Biosafety Level 1 (BSL 1), Biosafety Level 2 (BSL 2), and/or Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
