IQVIA Epidemiologist/Sr Epidemiologist, Sports Injury Surveillance and Analytics in Durham, North Carolina

JOB OVERVIEW

As a member of the Injury Surveillance and Analytics team, utilize epidemiologic and statistical methods to design, analyze, and deliver high quality observational research studies focused on sports injury research and other clinical areas. You will apply epidemiologic principles from study concept through final delivery; contribute expertise to study planning, study delivery, and study results and interpretation, including translation to non-scientific audiences; and develop scientific communications such as presentations, abstracts and manuscripts;.

Specifically, you will work closely with a cross-functional team to lead data reviews and data quality efforts including curation of electronic health records and diagnostic results, and conduct analytic programming and statistical activities, such as creating study cohorts, developing analytic datasets, calculating descriptive statistics, and performing comparative analyses to assess risk and rates of outcome occurrence. You will also create data visualizations and clearly communicate study results in agile analytic environment. Hands-on analytic abilities (SAS preferred) is key.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as team lead or in support of project lead on client facing or internal projects.

  • Performs descriptive and complex epidemiologic analyses and data quality reviews using SAS as part of a large analytic and cross-functional team.

  • Authors protocols, analytic plan summaries, reports and other study documents with independent, critical thinking to ensure quality and completeness of output, in an agile analytic environment.

  • Creates project timelines, identifies resources, and communicates progress with internal project team and senior leadership.

  • Develops presentations and data visualizations to communicate interim and final study results with internal project team and external audiences.

  • Provides review for work of peers and junior staff by ensuring integrity of analytic methods and accurate interpretation of results in connection to research questions and client needs.

  • Interacts with clients and collaborators, with senior leadership involvement as needed.

  • Manages workload including multiple tasks and projects and works with study team to prioritize work across multiple projects within study scope.

  • Represents IQVIA externally through conferences and client meeting presentations.

  • Leads development of manuscripts for publication and manages the journal submission process.

  • Identifies client-related, budget-related and internal issues that may require attention or escalation.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience: Typically requires 3 - 5 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Knowledge: Requires advanced knowledge of job area, and broad knowledge of other related job areas, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.

  • Education: Ph.D. with 2 years of relevant experience OR Master's Degree in public health, epidemiology, outcomes research, health economics or a relevant scientific field with 5 years relevant experience OR Bachelor's Degree with 7 years relevant education and experience.

  • Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to design and conduct in depth analytic research (using SAS) and effectively communicate key findings and next steps to internal and external audiences.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers and clients in a matrixed environment, and mentor junior team members.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects.

  • Must be highly organized and self-motivated with ability to determine and meet objectives.

  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, and SAS.

  • Sound methodological training in pharmacoepidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology, sports injury epidemiology, biostatistics, outcomes research, data science or related area relevant to observational research.

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $135,000.00 - $225,000.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
