Starting wage is $22.94 per hour. Bargaining Unit consideration begins on 7/19/2024 and ends on 7/27/24. DUTIES 1) Assist teacher in implementation of program plan to advance the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual competence of the children. 80% This includes: Providing environment of acceptance in which children can grow toward a sense of positive identity. Accurately observing, recording, and reporting individual and group behaviors. Planning and carrying out daily activities for a group of children. Care and supervision of children in the classroom. Preparation of educational materials required to implement the daily program. Provide sanitary and social meal/snack times. 2) Participate in establishing and maintaining an attractive, safe, healthy learning environment.15% 3) Direct part-time student staff and substitute staff in the care of children and provision of activities. 2% 4) Participate in staff development opportunities.2% 5) Other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to repeatedly perform each of the following: Physically supervise young children, protecting and preventing harm to them, Immediately respond to emergency situations, Visually and aurally observe children in their environment, Communicate with children and their parents/guardians, Move quickly, Move between floor and small chairs, Bend, stoop, stand, reach, squat, sit (on floor and/or child size chairs), Carry and lift children weighing between 30-50 pounds, Push 4-6 seat strollers while walking with children. Must not present a risk of transmission of reportable communicable diseases. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Current UMD students ineligible to apply. A combination of education, work/intern experience that meets State of MN Human Services Licensing Act, Rule 3 (9503.0032) requirements for child care centers. For example, a high school diploma/GED, plus 24 quarter credit hours in education and 4,160 hours directly related work experience. A background study and reference verification that meets requirements of State of MN State Human Services Licensing Act, Rule 11 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS degree in any field from an accredited college or university (18 quarter credits must be in education) +1,040 hrs experience as teacher/assistant, or intern. Or Minnesota Dept of Ed Pre-Kindergarten/Nursery or Early Childhood Teacher licensure. Experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds. Strong interpersonal skills Ability to model positive problem solving and respectful behavior. One year or more of formal experience working with children (birth to age 5) in a full-day child care program. About the Department UMD Preschool at the Park, located at our beautiful Chester Park site on the UMD campus, is committed to providing high quality and play based early childhood care to young children. Preschool at the Park is a preschool program serving children ages 3 to 5 years old. The program operates Monday through Friday from the first day of UMD fall semester classes through the end of May term. Full and part-time enrollment options are available for students. UMD Children's Place is located directly on campus in Kirby Plaza and is founded in the belief of the critical importance of the first years of life and the need to embrace the diversity of our world today. The vision of Children's Place seeks to be a model program providing quality, nurturing care and educational experiences for young children and their families of diverse backgrounds and abilities by building on the strengths of our community. The program is licensed to provide full-time care to 46 children between the ages f six weeks and the first day of school. Program hours are 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The program will be closed for all University holidays and emergency/weather closings.
