The candidate will be responsible for 3 contact hours per semester, which is the equivalent of teaching a 3-credit course and will be 25% time (10 hours per week). The initial appointment will be for one year, starting August 19th, 2024 through May 18th, 2025, with further appointments contingent upon performance and availability of funding. The AMS program is part of the Advanced Materials Center and is designed to be an interdisciplinary program focused on sustainable and resilient materials and connecting students directly with industry. The course currently consists of a 4-credit lecture (AMS 5101 in the Fall semester and AMS 5201 in the Spring semester) and a 2-credit lab (AMS 5102 in the Fall semester and AMS 5202 in the Spring semester). The adjunct instructor will have the responsibility of co-teaching one or more courses, which includes creating the courses, syllabi, and other instructional materials, creating a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and other constituents from diverse backgrounds and hold office hours in the Applied Materials Science (AMS) Master's program at UMD. Qualifications Required Qualifications: A Master's Degree in materials science, civil engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, polymer science, polymer engineering, or closely related field Ability to teach concepts of materials science and engineering Research experience in materials science and engineering Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching students in materials science and/or engineering Experience in one or more of the following materials: polymers, metals, composites, concrete, semi-conductors, or other sustainable and resilient material Strong publication record in the fields of materials science and/or engineering Industrial or academic experience in materials science and/or engineering Experience with polymer science, engineering, characterization, and processing Experience with laboratory equipment for materials testing and characterization Experience or interest in life cycle analysis How To Apply Applications must be submitted online.
