Quality Engineer - Automation Standard Products

About the role:

WEG Electric Corp. has a great opportunity for a Quality Engineer - Automation Standard Products to join our team here in Duluth GA. This position coordinates WEG Automation quality activities, interfacing between WEG customers and factories. Plans and coordinates the implementation of coverage, containment, and corrective actions, including WEG inventories, customer inventory/consumed product. Serves as the liaison to the internal Service team, Sales teams, and manufacturing location quality teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as point of contact for customers, coordinating with plant quality engineers to address and resolve issues effectively.

  • Assist in developing and implementing communication strategies, including correspondence, field correction instructions, and standards.

  • Provide timely updates to customers regarding the status of quality issues or any quality-related requests.

  • Support the investigation of customer complaints by leading cross-functional problem-solving teams focused on root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by sharing lessons learned and implementing best practices across factories to reduce non-conformances (NCC).

  • Mentor plant quality resources on problem-solving methodologies and other quality techniques.

  • Participate in regular customer reviews by preparing and presenting status updates on open issues.

  • Responsible for monitoring quality performance by keeping Quality indexes and working with the factories towards the implementation of corrective action plans to resolve the quality problems at their origin.

  • Collaborates with the factory in the creation of corrective action reports (8D) for customers.

  • Establishes short- and medium-term goals for the Quality area identifying the actions, deadlines and strategies to minimize the impact of quality issues in the product stock and to the customer.

  • Keeps policies and procedures updated and in line with the Quality guidelines provided by the parent company.

  • Creates corrective action plans to be implemented in nonconforming products

  • Train temporary workers and staff to perform inspections and corrective actions per the required inspection and correction plans

  • Creates working procedures for inspections with pass/fail criteria.

  • Coordinates the inspection on samples and pilot batch products received from the the factories in order to assure product quality before shipping to the customer.

  • Conduct statistical studies to evaluate product and process performance, using 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing as the main Quality tools

  • Creates and analyzes monthly reports on failures and quality issues observed in other factories and informs the team about these issues as part of proactive efforts.

  • Develops and implements new quality methods and tools.

  • Other duties and tasks as assigned

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field

Knowledge / training:

  • Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing

  • Excellent communication skills written, verbal, and presentation skills with effective technical writing skills

  • Knowledge of schematics, drawings and service manuals

  • Robust product and troubleshooting knowledge

  • Technical understanding of electrical power systems and electrical power distribution/circuit protection products

  • High-energy, results-oriented, self-reliant, team player who can positively collaborate across different business departments and cultures

  • Ability to manage challenging situations with a calm and professional demeanor.

  • Advanced level of MS Excel

  • Advanced level of SAP

  • Use of diagnostic tools and equipment

  • Strong Customer Focus

  • Strong analytical skills, and excellent problem-solving ability.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
