Atlantic Bottling Company Route Driver Trainee- Learning Opportunity in Dubuque, Iowa

Overview/Function: The Route Driver Trainee position serves as a support role to our Route Drivers, they will assist with the delivery and unloading of product. Trainees will also work on obtaining the necessary training and certifications required to become a DOT-certified Route Driver and work independently.

Major Responsibilities:

To support Route Drivers with their daily tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Follow work orders and standard operating procedures (SOPs) while making deliveries of Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling company products to customer sites along designated route.

  • Unload vehicle at customer site, moving product to designated location(s), filling shelves, rotating stock, building displays, and receiving prior unsold goods (credits).

  • Follow all safety regulations. Maintain clean and orderly work area at customer site to ensure safety for themselves and customers.

  • Ensure professional contact with customers and maintain a clean and neat appearance at all times in order to favorably represent the company and iconic Coca-Cola brand image.

  • Ethical conduct is expected at all times.

    In addition, Route Driver Trainees are expected to complete all training and testing assigned to them in a timely matter and be committed to obtaining their CDL within 90 days of employment. Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company has a reimbursement policy in place stating that any candidate we assist with obtaining a CDL must stay with the company for 12 months or they will be subject to pay back the cost of their certification.

    Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company will provide on-the-job CDL Class A training and all required equipment to successful candidates.

Qualifications

Experience & Qualifications:

No CDL certification is required, but the willingness to obtain one is required.

  • Excellent customer service communication skills in order to interact with customers. Must provide professional contact and appearance with customers which upholds Atlantic Bottling’s brand image.

  • Ability to read and follow directions and work orders

  • Ability to follow all safety requirements/protocols

  • Customer-focused and an excellent team player.

  • Flexible with the ability to adapt to varying situations.

  • Some light computer experience is helpful.

    Training Timeline (Subject to change as needed):

  • 1-4 Weeks: Ride along with a Route Driver and assist with their duties.

  • 2-4 Weeks: Will work on obtaining a CDL Permit with our Trainer (process can take up to 3 weeks)

  • 2-4 Weeks: Train behind the wheel with a road coach to prepare for CDL A Certification.

    Applicants must have received a CDL Class A within 90 days of employment. Once the Trainee has received their Class A CDL they will be moved into a Route Driver position and work independently within the company.

    Additional:

  • The role will travel to various customer sites; each environment will differ as a result.

  • This position is very active and requires the ability to frequently lift and/or move items up to 55 lbs. (Moving equipment and tools will be provided to reduce strains and injury.)

  • Standing, walking, twisting, grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, sitting, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing will be required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The ability to climb stairs is also needed.

  • The Route Support Specialist will frequently interact with customers. Extensive day travel will be required with this role.

  • To accomplish their tasks, the position will need to work around variety of weather environments which Iowa offers (i.e. sun, rain, sleet, rain, snow, cold, heat).

  • The role is considered a safety sensitive position.
