POSITION PURPOSE:

The Clerical/Billing Support Specialist is responsible for performing excellent customer service to outpatients, visitors, hospital staff and healthcare providers and their office staff in a quick, efficient manner. The clerical staff is responsible for handling phone calls, processing patient data and payments, placing test orders/results, processing insurance payments, and maintaining laboratory records.

What you will do:

  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service & communication skills as the first contact with clients, patients, and payers either on the phone or face-to-face.

  • Answers incoming calls in a pleasant, professional manner and resolves caller's request if possible. Routes other calls to the appropriate staff member or department.

  • Responsible for obtaining, validating and accurately entering patient billing and insurance information for both client and account billing, including Medical Necessity checks, obtaining Advanced Beneficiary Notices of Non-Coverage, and contacting providers in a professional and courteous manner to obtain missing billing information.

  • Ensures timely distribution and routing of all laboratory reports, daily notifications, client invoices, and patient statements.

  • Ensures all incoming communications, including departmental mailings, postal mail, email, and faxes, are acted upon in a timely manner.

  • Adheres to all Laboratory and Hospital Policies & Procedures. Observes all safety and infection control practices where indicated. Maintains a neat and orderly workplace.

  • Demonstrates the ability to organize, prioritize, execute and follow up on daily workflow, both independently and with co-workers. All tasks are owned by the individual until resolution or another person accepts ownership. Assists others as time and workload permit.

  • Follows established policies and procedures for the accurate collection, recording, transporting, and posting of cash receipts and other forms of patient payments.

  • Maintains confidentiality with all information consistent with HIPAA and laboratory policy.

  • Reconciles billing errors, submits claims manually or electronically to payers, monitors claims, process denials, and monitor bad debt.

  • Attends workshops and continuing education seminars that are applicable to job duties.

  • Performs reconciliation of monthly invoices from service providers.

  • Enters new physician and clients in the LIS and billing system and keeps their information current by updating information as requested.

What we are looking for:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Training in medical billing and insurance preferred.

  • Proficient keyboard skills and basic understanding of computers and software required.

  • Understanding of commonly used medical terminology preferred.
