About the role The Associate General Counsel-Employment Law serves as a strategic legal partner, providing expert advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on a wide range of employment law & benefit matters to ensure compliance while fostering a workplace culture that aligns with business objectives. This role focuses on achieving key outcomes related to risk mitigation, policy enhancement, and legal advisory for the company's employment matters. The successful candidate will proactively address employment-related risks, support company and HR initiatives, and provide strategic counsel to leadership. What you'll do (Essential Responsibilities) Ensure 100% compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, minimizing legal exposure. Reduce employment-related litigation by implementing proactive legal strategies and resolving disputes effectively. Develop and oversee employment-related policies and procedures that meet legal standards while aligning with company culture. Conduct internal investigations and provide actionable recommendations within agreed-upon timelines. Lead wage and hour practice audits to ensure compliance with the FLSA, applicable state laws, including with respect to exempt/non-exempt classification, worker/independent contractor classification, administration of compensation programs, and timekeeping and payroll practices. Serve as a trusted advisor to Human Resources and executive leadership, delivering timely and practical legal guidance. Provide expert legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on a wide range of employment law & benefits matters, included by not limited to employee relations issues, leaves of absence, accommodations, employee benefits plans, health & welfare plans, and retirement plans. Enhance company decision-making by providing clear, risk-balanced legal advice that enables business growth. Lead training initiatives that increase management's understanding of employment laws and best practices. Collaborate with Human Resources to develop, review, revise and implement company policies, procedures, guidelines and programs related to employment law, employee benefits, leaves of absence, and compensation to ensure alignment with best practices and legal requirements. Review and revise internal policies and procedures to ensure multi-jurisdictional regulatory compliance. Improve workplace policies to enhance employee engagement, reduce turnover, and strengthen compliance. Monitor and implement changes in employment law that impact the business, ensuring timely updates to company policies. Successfully resolve employment disputes pre-litigation through mediation, negotiation, or policy adjustments. Lead the company's response to employment-related claims, partnering with external counsel when necessary. Manage employment-related litigation with a focus on minimizing financial and reputational risks. Support DEI initiatives by ensuring employment practices foster a fair and inclusive workplace.
