RN Registered Nurse Job Description Summary Provides general nursing care to patients in hospital or similar health care facility by performing the following duties, in compliance with Northeast Med Staff?s and hospital standards of maintaining confidentiality, integrity, quality care and professionalism. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension. 2. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques. 3. Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient. 4. Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of patient?s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. 5. Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal, assess condition of patient and responds appropriately. 6. Makes beds, bathes and feeds patients when required. 7. Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol. 8. Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients. 9. Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by physician and/or hospital policy including patient and family instruction. 10. Completes required facility orientation at assigned facility. 11. Floats among various clinical services where qualified and competent. 12. Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities. 13. Performs duties under the direct clinical supervision of the assigned client. 14. Safeguards confidentiality of patients and clients. 15. Follows facilities safety rules and procedures while on assignment. 16. Reports unsafe working conditions to the attention of your immediate supervisor. 17. Follows facility?s Exposure Control Plan based on OSHA?s Bloodborne pathogen Standard and CDC guidelines for healthcare personnel (Standard Precautions means treating blood, all body fluids, excretions and secretions, plus non-intact skin and mucus membranes as though infected with bloodborne or other pathogens. Standard precautions incorporates features of both Universal Precautions and Body Substance Isolation practices to protect you against the risk of bloodborne pathogens as well as pathogens from moist body substances.) Education and Experience - 1 year recent hospital experience - Current BLS certification - Graduate from an accredited school of nursing - 2 references and history of employment Essential Requirements and Responsibilities I agree to maintain and keep current my file with the below requirements. I understand that if I do not have any of the following credentials, health records, required training or any other information necessary, then my employment with Northeast Med Staff may be terminated. 1. Current RN license (In good standing, without disciplinary investigation or actions) 2. Current BCLS 3. Current health records to include: current, TB, Hepatitis B and immunization records. 4. Completed criminal background check 5. Completed Meds test and clinical skills checklist. 6. All necessary paperwork for employment to be signed and dated. 7. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
