City of Douglas Maintenance Technician II (Aquatic Technician)(Part Time) in Douglas, Arizona

Job Summary:

Protects the health and safety of the swimming public and maintains proper saturation indexes to determine water balances, prevent scaling and/or corrosion of city pools, pipes, pool heaters and pump equipment. This position also provides facility maintenance to the aquatic center and 8^th^ street pool as well as operates the filtration system, disinfects and chemically treats city swimming pools.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains proper water chemistry to ensure the health and safety of the swimming public.
  • Maintains and operates equipment at all city pools to include but not limited to: chlorinators, filters, surge tanks, automatic water fill, valves, heaters, booster pumps, venture pumps, valve floats, retractable roof, portable vacuum, vacuum hoses and heads, chlorinator probe and chlorinator controllers, plumbing equipment.
  • Performs repair of some pool equipment.
  • Takes periodic readings of water samples and maintains proper logs according to health code.
  • Removes leaves and other debris from surface of water, using nets.
  • Cleans bottom and sides of pool, using aids as underwater vacuum cleaners, hoses, brushes, detergents, and acid solutions.
  • May assist Health Department representative in obtaining water samples.
  • Prepares service reports of materials used and work performed.
  • Drives truck as necessary to perform duties.
  • Provides facilities maintenance on aquatic center and 8^th^ street pool.
  • Responds to urgent situation on-call as required.
  • May supervise inmate labor crews.
  • May oversee and direct assignments for volunteer maintenance workers.
  • Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values, and goals of the City by assuring that all policies, rules and regulations are followed and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
  • Supports the relationship between the City and the constituent population by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors and City staff; enthusiastically promotes the Citys goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and Follows City-wide safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the City\'s Safety Handbook.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

Responsibility:

  • Responsible for maintaining city swimming pools in a clean condition and keep water purified to meet standards.
  • Must exercise caution in handling of pool chemicals to avoid inhaling its fumes.
  • Must obtain a Certified Swimming Pool License for facility maintenance.

Effort:

  • Handles 80-foot pole when cleaning swimming pool.
  • Helps to unload 100 pounds boxes of chemicals on delivery days.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed indoors at the aquatic center and outdoors during the summer months when park swimming pools are open subjecting worker to a moderately hot environment.
  • Must exercise caution in handling of pool chemicals and avoid contact and inhaling of fumes.
