Job Posting Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, the Financial Aid Systems Management (FASM) Counselor will ensure the timely processing of systems operations to support the Office of Student Financial Services in a professional, efficient and compliant manner. The FASM Counselor will serve as a resource and primary support to Student Financial Services campus staff members, ensuring student-centered services are meeting the needs of traditional, non-traditional, adult and minority student populations. This is an entry-level position that will allow novices to gain experience, skills and knowledge in the areas of financial aid, student services and overall higher education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process the daily workflow of the Financial Aid Systems Management staff; support the Student Accounts staff, the Student Financial Services staff, and the Enrollment Management Support staff, in an organized and consistent manner as outlined by the Executive Director and Director

  • Process ISIR data load and perform quality assurance processes and new student packaging; generate timely comprehensive financial aid award notifications, Verification notifications, and missing document notifications

  • Generate weekly scholarship notification letters using mail merges. All daily mailings need to be collated and prepared for delivery to mailroom by assigned deadlines

  • Support Assistant Director with Federal Work study processes, including but not limited to Payroll reporting, document collection and distribution, exceptions reporting and student/supervisor’s correspondence. Expected to work closely with payroll, HR and supervisors to make sure student is eligible for Federal Work Study and clear to start work

  • Assist with direct loan, private/endowed loan processes and monitoring the FASM inbox, which includes reviewing and troubleshooting errors, linking MPNs, and updating Entrance Counseling information

  • Perform various tasks as assigned for Enrollment Management activities, such as: Open House, Accepted Students Days, Scholarship Events, etc.

  • Attend all departmental staff meetings and training sessions

  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications

Experience and/or Skills required:

  • Ability to travel between campuses is required, along with national travel

  • Experience in Banner preferred, and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and multiple Department of Education software products

  • Broad knowledge of financial aid specific and related regulations (federal and state) expected

  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, written and oral communication, problem-solving, organizational, and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated evidence of detail-orientation, customer service orientation, ability to work independently, ability to manage great levels of responsibility required

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus

  • Ability to work long hours, including weekends and evenings as required

    Education Required or Min Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one to two years of higher education related experience preferred

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources.
