ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS: *Create and maintain a safe and free-free environment by *
- Maintaining and monitoring building and resident security
- Providing check in, assessment and orientation for adult and child shelter residents
- Promoting shelter rules and guidelines through respectful communications, modeling positive parenting and by constructive confrontation with a focus on affirmation and problem solving
- Employing strategies to prevent and address aggressive behavior and to deescalate volatile situations
- Performing routine repair, maintenance and custodial duties for facility and common use areas including but not limited to snow shoveling, yard work, preparing and processing subsistence and/or donated food items, and cleaning/janitorial services.
- Providing regular inventory, maintenance and inspection of shelter supplies and equipment and assuring that facility property and supplies are used properly
- Implementing and maintaining safety and emergency response procedures including routine fire/evacuation/intruder drills, posting current emergency response information, and regular inventory and inspection of safety equipment
*Enhances safety and empowers people to identify and access the services they need by: *
- Engaging adults and children in identifying issues, assessing needs and developing strategies and strengthening resources to resolve identified issues
- Providing peer counseling, personal support, information and advocacy services including

``` - Arranging for safe shelter, food and support services, child care and transportation to assist persons with accessing necessary joint services - Coordinating and arranging for assessments and services to assist in the prevention of unplanned pregnancies among women and young adults who are battered, chemically dependent and/or in danger of relapse. - Assisting and encouraging individuals, parents and caregivers to seek screening and diagnosis for persons impacted by fetal alcohol exposure - Provide check out and follow-up services - Conduct lethality assessments and assist with initial and ongoing safety planning

``` - Developing, organizing and providing group activities, counseling services and/or programming for adults and children in shelter including providing/arranging for specialized classes/groups for children and adults subsistence skill building, chemical dependency issues, and art/play therapy

``` - Facilitating and/or assisting with resident group meetings with a focus on resident decision making and control of day to day shelter activities, scheduling and usage - Providing primary care giving in a structured environment to children residing in the shelter
*Supports general program functions by *
- Maintaining all shelter logs and resident files as necessary
- Assisting with operations of second hand shop including receiving, sorting, storing, and selling used clothing and household items and arts and crafts items.
- Respond to crisis calls including assessment, crisis intervention counseling and referral.
- Serve as Back-up to the shelter in cases of absence or emergency.
- Other duties as assigned.
