STARK COUNTY Noxious Weed Control Specialist I - Seasonal in Dickinson, North Dakota
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sprays weeds; identifies weeds; logs information.
- Performs data entry using GPS and data loggers; keeps detailed records of weather and locations.
- Locates and maps the presence of weeds; determines the appropriate weed control approach.
- Performs bio-control activities under the supervision of coordinator.
- Maintains spray equipment; calibrates equipment; maintains vehicles; makes minor repairs.
- Provides weed identification for land owners; communicates with land owners regarding appropriate control methods.
- Communicates with other weed applicators.
- Participates in landowner assistance program.
- Attends workshops.
- Shows initiative by recognizing tasks that need to be performed.
- Provides general labor service to other County departments as requested.
- Performs related work as required.
Education and Experience:
- Must be 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent and be willing to obtain commercial applicator certification. Certification training is open book and paid for by the County.
- Possession of a valid State of North Dakota driver's license.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of GPS mapping procedures and processes.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and various software applications.
- Ability to operate various office equipment.
- Ability to prepare various written reports and records.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and organize work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County staff, external public agencies, weed control specialists and the general public.
Working Conditions/Physical and Mental Demands:
- Physical environment consists of frequent field work. May be required to perform a full range of motion with lifting and/or carrying materials, equipment and items weighing up to 50 pounds. Exposure to extreme weather conditions. Exposure to hazardous chemicals. Exposure to moving vehicles.
