Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Sprays weeds; identifies weeds; logs information.
• Performs data entry using GPS and data loggers; keeps detailed records of weather and locations.
• Locates and maps the presence of weeds; determines the appropriate weed control approach.
• Performs bio-control activities under the supervision of coordinator.
• Maintains spray equipment; calibrates equipment; maintains vehicles; makes minor repairs.
• Provides weed identification for land owners; communicates with land owners regarding appropriate control methods.
• Communicates with other weed applicators.
• Participates in landowner assistance program.
• Attends workshops.
• Shows initiative by recognizing tasks that need to be performed.
• Provides general labor service to other County departments as requested.
• Performs related work as required.

Education and Experience:

• Must be 18 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent and be willing to obtain commercial applicator certification. Certification training is open book and paid for by the County.
• Possession of a valid State of North Dakota driver's license.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of GPS mapping procedures and processes.
• Ability to operate a personal computer and various software applications.
• Ability to operate various office equipment.
• Ability to prepare various written reports and records.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and organize work assignments.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County staff, external public agencies, weed control specialists and the general public.

Working Conditions/Physical and Mental Demands:

• Physical environment consists of frequent field work. May be required to perform a full range of motion with lifting and/or carrying materials, equipment and items weighing up to 50 pounds. Exposure to extreme weather conditions. Exposure to hazardous chemicals. Exposure to moving vehicles.
