Aerotek Machinist in Dexter, Michigan

Job Title: Machinist

Job Description

The Machinist is responsible for the set-up, layout, and operation of turning mills. The mills are primarily CNC and Haas, running off specific programming. You will be expected to run prototype work and small production runs for the Aerospace and Medical industries. The parts vary in materials depending on the industry and can range from plastics to a variety of metals.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and layout of parts, tools, and machines in support of the machining process

  • Layout work from blueprints, sketches, and written instructions

  • Load correct programs to the machine and use G&M codes

  • Move controls to set cutting speeds and depths, feed rates, and position tools based on the work sketches, including setting GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing)

  • Set proper holding pressure on vises and collets

  • Operate Mill turning machines and perform tool changes as the work is being run

  • Select and properly load the correct fixtures for the job

  • Monitor speeds and feeds for the machine

  • Make modifications and move the machine tool according to instructions through a toolpath

  • Cut away excess material to leave only the finished product

  • Inspection of the parts using instruments such as gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators

  • Verify documentation

Essential Skills

  • 2 years of experience with CNC mills

  • Experience working with CNC and Haas Machines

  • Programming experience with SURFCAM, EDGECAM, Mastercam, or similar software

  • Ability to independently program and operate mills

  • Comfortable machining a variety of different materials

  • Experience in the Aerospace, Nuclear, and Medical industries

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associates/Technical program degree

  • Lathe experience (preferred)

  • Experience with robotic programming

Work Environment

The work environment is a clean and temperature-controlled manufacturing setting with 8 different mills and ample space to move and operate between machines. The manufacturing area is surrounded by office space and a breakroom.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00
