Program/Project Assistant I - Physician Assistant Studies

Essential functions (job duties):

POSITION PURPOSE

Participate and assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of programs and/or projects

for a School, College and/or Center/Institute at the University. May provide some specialized

knowledge of data compilation, synthesis and analysis for purpose of service, directed research and

study for a specific program and/or project area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Participate in specific program and/or project research or service methodologies and initiatives;

conduct procedural data collection techniques which may include gathering information through a

structured interview format. Interface with program/project staff and participants to assess and

determine goals, objectives and needs; recommend procedural changes to support operational

activities as needed.

  • Evaluate and access program needs; develop and implement actions to facilitate program activities.

Compile data for report preparation; prepare activity reports and summaries; update as necessary.

  • Participate in database management activities. Coordinate data entry activities; monitor input of

data; verify accuracy to ensure information is reliable for report generation, synthesis and analysis.

  • May provide functional supervision to subordinate volunteer and student support personnel. Train

in appropriate methods and techniques. Develop training materials; conduct training sessions and

individual or group presentations. Monitor subordinate personnel; review activity logs and reports.

  • Serve as liaison to various outside agencies, organizations, vendors, study groups or individuals and

University personnel. May conduct on-site visits and interview sessions to establish relationship and

accessibility to specific study groups and individuals.

  • Keep abreast of developments in research methodologies and techniques and integrate such in

operational activity or activities of assigned area. Resolve problems, answer questions and direct

non-standard inquiries to appropriate personnel.

  • Prepare written correspondence, memorandum, reports and informational pieces on program

activities. Coordinate and arrange program meetings, presentations, activities and services.

  • Perform related work as assigned.

Unique duties:

  • Develop and implement streamline computer-based process for collection of assessment date for analysis and reporting purposes. - Assemble and maintain computer-based files pertaining to assessment data required for maintenance of accreditation. - Execute secure and effective data collection. - Maintain computer-bases databases for clinical rotation placement of students. - Maintain the integrity of data that contains personal identifiable information. - Interpret and apply internal operating procedures, University policies and contractual agreements accordingly. May possess signatory authority on selected forms and documents. - Supervise non-exempt full-time clerical/technical, part-time temporary student, college work study and technician support staff. Interview and recommend employment, discipline and evaluation of full-time and temporary support staff; conduct orientation and training programs. - Coordinate use of facilities, services and equipment which includes space leasing, subcontracting arrangements as well as initiating requests for services such as building or equipment maintenance, and printing/duplicating services, etc. Interface with appropriate University personnel to obtain information and resolve problems. - Serve as an information source to faculty, staff, students and the general public; answer questions, provide information and resolve routine problems regarding operations and services. May represent unit/or supervisor to other University areas and outside professional groups and organizations to obtain and exchange information. - Participate in and coordinate the preparation and completion of special projects and studies and collect and gather statistical data for reporting purposes. Prepare reports which include conclusions and recommendations for solution to administrative problems.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.

  • Some knowledge and experience of structured interviewing techniques preferred.

  • Ability to interact with various socio-economic groups.

  • Some knowledge of a specific discipline or the operational activities of an assigned area, e.g. psychology, computing technology, child development, teacher education, etc.

  • Strong written and/or oral communication skills.

  • Some supervisory experience preferred.

  • Typically, incumbents have had experience working on service or research projects as a student intern or volunteer.

Preferred qualifications:

The highly successful candidate may also meet the following qualifications: - Experience with working with databases, data coordinating, or data handling. - Proficient in Microsoft Excel. - Proficient and comfortable in learning new computer-based software systems. - Great attention to detail. - Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and impact on program’s success. - Highly motivated and innovative individual Physician Assistant Studies Program The WSU PAS program is one of 9 health professional education programs in the Health Sciences Department of the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Since the program’s inception in 1996, we have grown into an established urban-based education and training program, focused on the development of highly competent and deeply committed physician assistants. This is implemented through a 24-month long curriculum which emphasizes the practical and policy issues of: health promotion and disease prevention; primary care delivery in inner city and urban medically underserved areas, and the delivery of care to populations with special needs. The program has maintained an excellent first-time pass rates on the PANCE.
