Detroit Housing Commission PART-TIME ASSOCIATE IN-HOUSE COUNSEL in Detroit, Michigan
The Detroit Housing Commission (DHC) seeks a dedicated, skilled part-time associate to join its in-house legal team. This position will offer the opportunity to provide general legal support on public housing matters, including regulatory compliance, contracts, tenant relations, and litigation. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong legal background, excellent communication skills, and a passion for public service. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission or eligibility for admission to the Bar of the State of Michigan, the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS ? Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. ? Active membership in the Michigan State Bar or eligibility to practice under Michigan's corporate counsel rule. ? 10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably with experience in housing law, real estate, government, or nonprofit law. ? Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise legal documents. ? Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both legal and non-legal staff. ? Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. ? Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. ? A demonstrated commitment to public service and a passion for supporting Detroit's community through affordable housing initiatives. ? Familiarity with federal and state housing and tenant relations laws, including fair housing regulations.
