Essential functions (job duties):

Job Purpose:

The Manager, Poison Center Educator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the poison education by the Michigan Poison & Drug Information Center (MiPDC) for the entire state of Michigan and is responsible for incorporating a combination of public health strategies to create, market, promote and increase awareness of Poison Center services. This role is responsible for informing, educating, and empowering the population served in poison prevention and to reduce poisoning risks. Supports the Administrative and Clinical Directors of the Poison Center by establishing and implementing marketing, public relations and advocacy initiatives and attaining center goals. This position reports to the Senior Director, MiPDC.

Essential Functions:

Partner with marketing department to create and develop ongoing educational content for the center’s outreach goals. Identify educational information and provide in person outreach to the community. Expand MiPDC’s presence and brand via the outreach initiatives, establishing relationships with various public health coalitions.

Develop educational content for dissemination through robust social media presence to promote the center and educate audiences on poison control. Work closely with Poison Control Educator to provide comprehensive statewide exposure of educational content. Lead community engagement opportunities by establishing a strong community presence. Provide poison control focused education and promote center’s services at various workshops, conferences, seminars, and community meetings.

Prepare relevant reports, analyses, and summaries on center’s educational and public relations activities. Provide representation at the national meeting of the North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology. Supervise, direct, and evaluate Poison Control Educator through direct interaction. Provide mentoring and instruction for direct report. Supports the strategic planning process and oversees day-to-day program reporting.

Establish collaborative relationships with public health agencies, elected officials, regulatory entities and representatives, and other poison control centers to create and/or enhance effective public education and awareness of poison control center’s programs. Maintains familiarity with best practices and advancements in education. Serve as an information source to faculty, staff, students, and the general public; answer questions and educate audiences at conferences and through content developed for social media and the center website. Develop staff training programs and orientation programs and staff development.

Create grant requests and project planning.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree

Bachelor’s degree in from an accredited university in health education, public health, healthcare services administration, or education or health related discipline. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Masters’ degree in Community Health Education preferred.

Experience: Expert (established subject matter expert, 7+ years experience)

Seven years’ experience in providing health education program planning and training; demonstrated experience in creating and presenting training, educational and promotional materials, and activities. Experience creating content for social media and websites.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Professional and effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to express clear and concise messages; ability to effectively interact with health professionals, lay public, patients, families, and medical staff under stressful conditions.

Demonstrate good communication skills when dealing with small and large audiences.

Demonstrated ability to build consensus, anticipate problems and difficult situations and develop mutually agreed-upon strategies and solutions. Ability to gather, interpret and/or evaluate a data in a timely accurate manner. Ability to propose and evaluate alternative solutions to achieve organizational goals.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications. Ability to understand and navigate social media behind the scenes.

Knowledge of poison control required.
