Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or foundation/non-profit management or equivalent work experience

  • Proficiency in Salesforce or similar Grants Management systems

  • 2 years of experience in grants management

  • Experience in a corporate philanthropy or foundation environment

  • Experience with process improvement and creative problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 years of experience in grants management in a foundation or non-profit setting

  • Experience in accounting and audit preparation, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information

  • Experience working in the fields of community development, housing, public life

Job Summary

The Grants Manager for Detroit initiatives oversees all grant portfolios for this pillar of the Foundation. This role collaborates closely with program teams throughout the grant lifecycle including attending team and partner meetings, facilitating grant application review, initiating and reviewing progress reports for budget accuracy and compliance and optimizing the grants administration processes. The role involves training users, processing payments, building reports, and providing technical support to partners. The Grants Manager will also stay informed of industry best practices and contribute to grant application processes and budget development.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Grants Manager of 4 grant portfolios; Arts and Culture, Public Space, Housing Stability, Economic Mobility

  • Work effectively alongside program teams during the planning, development, and full lifecycle of all Detroit Initiatives grants

  • Train all current and new grants database users, act as the go-to resource for technology issues and continually work to enhance the experience of all users

  • Develop and oversee terms and conditions for grant agreements and contracts

  • Screen applications and maintain a complete electronic database for grants management

  • Perform administrative tasks (information management, maintenance of financial aspects of grant files, document destruction, etc.) as needed

  • Review all incoming grant applications for their financial requirements, feasibility and practical implementation

  • Process payments related to grants/sponsorships and vendors

  • Identify and develop strategies to optimize the grants administration process

  • Build custom reports and dashboards for different teams based on their business needs

  • Ensure compliance with IRS regulations for grants and programs

  • Provide professional customer service and technical support to ensure our partners’ experience is exceptional

  • Work with a legal team to ensure grants processes and agreements are executed with external partners

  • Pursue additional training in grant management requirements/regulations, as needed

  • Keep abreast of industry best practices with respect to grants management in the community development space

  • Inform the RFP and grant application process alongside program managers and complete the technical build and maintenance of the grant application and progress reporting portal

  • Attend meetings with partners to better understand the grant development process and to best inform grant agreement terms before grant execution

  • Attend meetings with program teams to stay current of upcoming projects and investments and guide the team towards full budget utilization in a timely fashion

  • Raise concerns with grant application review, progress reporting review, and tracking toward milestones as it pertains to compliance, metrics, and performance and make suggestions to the Operations Manager for future improvements

  • Support the budget development process for program teams including providing historical reports and budget to actual metrics

  • Provide grant reports for the Director as requested
