Commissioning Specialist

Position Summary

 

This position is responsible for executing commissioning activities that bring new infrastructure from construction to full operation across Plug Power's product lines. This role will focus on customer sites in North America with a potential for international travel. As such, this is a heavy travel position (up to 100%). This role requires excellent mechanical and electrical aptitude with a high degree of familiarity with industrial gas systems and performance. This position also requires the ability to be flexible in order to maintain project timelines. The ideal candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively among cross-functional departments. The Commissioning Specialist will interface with internal teams, contractors, state/city inspectors, customers, first responders and any additional outside entities that play a role in the site up process. Candidates should have strong communication skills and act in a professional manner while interacting internally and externally.

 

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Travel to customer sites to perform inspection, troubleshooting, repair, testing and commissioning of Plug power products including but not limited to refueling infrastructure, electrolyzers, power generation units, and reformers as required. (Millwright experience is strongly preferred)

Must be highly knowledgeable with the operation and troubleshooting of industrial gas systems and components; experience with hydrogen fueling infrastructure is highly preferable.

May be required to assist with high level service repairs on existing infrastructure

Provide training to first responders and customers

Act as SME for contractors, project managers, and customers while on site

Act as site leadership in absence of project manager

Proven skill set as related to the construction, commissioning and operation of industrial gas utility infrastructure including but not limited to:

Safe operations of equipment

Understanding controls ideology of equipment

Electrical wiring schematics (electrician experience preferred, specifically 120)

Point to Point functionality testing

Pressure testing of piping systems per ASME standards

Test and troubleshoot program issues with engineering assistance

Inspection of process piping systems (pressure ratings, fittings, etc.)

Provide documented results from system testing and commissioning at the complete of each project

Create, track, and close out project task list

Environmental impact on equipment function and performance

Safe operation and control of combustibles

Ability to diagnose system problems and troubleshoot

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and P&IDs

Demonstrated ability to interact with customers and external vendors professionally and effectively

Must be able to operate independently with minimal supervision while achieving high quality results in work assignments.

Must be able to adapt to changing requirements and meet project commitments/objectives without sacrificing workmanship or quality.

Shares ideas about process improvements and other cost saving measures with project team and management.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and technical specifications.

Maintain a focus around safety in all facets of work and ensure that all relevant parties are educated on the safe operation of hydrogen equipment and infrastructure.

Provide on the job training to new commissioning specialists as needed
