Principal Financial Group Sustainable Investing Intern - Summer 2025 in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

As a sustainable investing intern, you will be part of a centralized team in Principal Asset Management that works with investment and shared services professionals to enhance and support the firm’s sustainable investing ecosystem. In this role, you’ll work with a variety of teams across the globe on initiatives dedicated to establishing and maintaining client transition frameworks, engagement processes and reporting, governance, and regulatory support.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Principal Asset Management Climate Transition Framework planning and execution – Help plan data infrastructure and reporting needs to support the climate transition framework of Principal Asset Management, including investment team consultation where appropriate. Help infuse critical elements of climate transition framework into appropriate policies, procedures, marketing, and training deliverables.

  • Sustainable Investing Engagement Support – Help support data gathering from investment team engagements for firm level tracking purposes. Participate in associated reporting enhancement activities. Assist with finding more efficient methods of producing stewardship and engagement reporting.

  • Sustainable Investing Governance – Aid in sustainable investing oversight activities, including helping prepare for annual investment team reviews.

  • Sustainable Investing Regulatory Projects – Assist with business consulting and execution of sustainability-related regulatory projects on behalf of our sustainable investing team, including CSRD, California Scope 3 climate emissions, and other global regulatory support needs.

Who You Are

  • Currently pursuing or completed undergraduate or graduate level degree. Finance, Accounting, or Environmental Studies candidates preferred.

  • Involvement in extracurricular activities and/or involvement within the community

  • Interest in sustainability topics and investing.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with internal and external partners around the globe

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Strong analytical skills

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$20 - $22 / hour

Time Off Program

Paid company holidays and any time off required in your state.

Internship Stipend

You will receive a lump sum stipend of $3,000. This amount is intended to support incidental expenses you may incur as part of your internship. The Company will provide a tax gross-up on this stipend as a financial benefit, but is not intended to compensate for all tax liabilities.

Location & Work Environment

We are hiring in Des Moines, IA for this internship. This role offers the ability for in-office, or three days in-office and one day remote. You’ll work with your leader to determine which option may align best based on several factors.
