Principal Financial Group Senior Accounting Analyst- Finance in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for a Senior Accounting Analyst to join Principal's Retirement & Income Solutions (RIS) Expense team. This team plays a vital role in managing the Expense Forecast and Reporting for all RIS cost centers, allocating expenses within RIS, tracking, and reporting strategic project expenses and outcomes, calculating key performance indicators, and preparing various external reports, including benchmarking studies. In this role, you’ll collaborate with finance and business leaders to provide insights into expense management and control. We are looking for a motivated, proactive team player with strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. This role will involve working closely with operational teams and management to address their financial needs. Informal leadership experience is essential, with the potential to take on formal leadership responsibilities as the role progresses.

  • Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and analytical skills.

  • Experience with informal leadership; formal leadership experience is a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work independently, drive results, and take initiative.

  • Adaptability in a dynamic and changing environment.

  • Proficiency in Excel is required; experience with Power BI and SQL is preferred.

  • Familiarity with Essbase, PeopleSoft, expense allocation, forecasting, and reporting is advantageous.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of 6 years of financial analysis experience required

  • CPA or other applicable certifications preferred

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$106400 - $144400 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers an in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangement in Des Moines, IA.
