TEKsystems Network Engineer in Des Moines, Iowa

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in computer related field or equivalent work experience. 6+ years experience. Proven experience as a senior IT network professional. Advanced network skills required. Advanced planning/organizational, problem-solving, analytical, time management, decision-making, and communication skills required, as well as solid leadership and basic presentation skills. Must be able to effectively communicate technical plans, strategies, and designs to all levels of the company. Basic knowledge of business unit applications preferred. Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for designing, planning, implementing, supporting, and recovering network infrastructure in accordance with business requirements.

  • Position is open as a backfill for team member who left the company. The position is part of a six person team. The loss of resource impacts the teams ability to fully meet committed initiative (65%-70% of time) and operational work (30%-35% of time).
  1. Please describe the project work, and what do day-to-day responsibilities look like:
  • The candidate should be able to provide strategic planning and execution of high visibility initiatives across client's global landscape.

  • Collaborate with internal clients, peers, and leadership to influence the modernization of our datacenter, campus and cloud-based networks

  • Build a world class network infrastructure

  1. What technologies or systems will this contingent worker be utilizing?
  • Cisco switching, routing, Meraki SD WAN (including wireless) and security

a. If a candidate does not have all the technologies listed, would there be technologies you would consider “similar” and/or “transferable” for this position?

  1. What skills are you looking for in the ideal candidate?

a. Needed:

  • Scripting and network automation with ansible (or other scripting/automation tools)

  • AWS networking would be very beneficial.

  • Experience configuring, managing and deploying Cisco ASR and ISR routers, and Nexus and Catalyst switches.

  • Experience with BGP or other routing protocols, IPSEC, network troubleshooting, Point to Point, MPLS and Internet-based VPNs

  1. Could this contract position lead to a potential full-time role? If yes, what is typical the conversion salary? *Reminder, if we do consider applicants for full-time, they will still go through client's regular hiring process.
  • This will be a contract to hire position with a direct path to a full time position. Salary commensurate with skills.
  1. Will this person be any sort of team lead?
  • No
  1. What is the size and culture of the team?
  • Six person team domestically

  • Works with a peer team in Pune India

  • Team members are consistently communicating and sharing information and ideas

  1. Will this person interact with any other Principal departments?
  • Yes, company wide exposure
  1. Is this role needing someone to sit on-site, or work remote?
  • Prefer Des Moines or Charlotte
  1. How long is this contract expected to last? Is there a possibility of extension beyond this date?
  • Four to Six months before conversion to full time
  1. What does the interview process look like for this opening?
  • Initial interview with team leader and department Engineer

  • If multiple qualified candidates, one additional interview with a different department Engineer
